I am considering getting a stock TRX250r, or a MX built Blaster, which one would be better for MX?

250R all the way, it doesn't matter what is done to the Blaster it's chassis and geometry cannot duplicate the handling of the 250R! Blaster is not even half the bike in my opinion that the 250R is for many reasons. 1) Blasters are way too small 2) The 250R motor is much more capable of producing more power 3) 250R has the best handling geometry out there, why do you think all the aftermarket companies try to duplicate it. I could go all night but just go with a 250R and you won't regret it!!!

actually ive seen a handfull of full blwon blasters that are pretty quick and a stock 250r is kind of like a stock 3rd gen camaro ..... aint shyt till u mod it

First off it is hard to find a stock 250R that does not at least have a pipe! Second, who in their right mind would leave it stock when there is such much capability in the motor!!!!:D The 250R is a MUCH better chassis for handling which is what he wants for MX.

no doubt i would take the 250 as well. but he did say stock 250r and mx built blaster. hes also 15 years old and as amateur as can possibly be. i have a 14 year old brother and it took him 3 months just to save for nerf bars. his question isnt as stupid as you guys see it.

I would still get the 250R even if its stock, mainly because it is a machine that can grow with you and can do pretty much whatever you would want to do down the road. The Honda is liquid cooled too and thats a plus. The Honda is superior in many ways but the only reason I myself would consider the blaster is because eventually 250R parts arent going to be as easy to get and I think that may be or is already starting.

Ban him.

Ban him now.

OK, I'll admit my first quad was a blaster. Air cooled, drum brakes, short wheelbase. I wrapped it around a tree.

Then I got my old 250R.

Hoooo, baby.

Night and day.

If you've had ANY seat time at all, get the R.

12-18-2006, 12:51 PM
A 240cc blaster verse a stock 250 the blaster dont even come close. The 250 beats it in every posably way other than being heavier.

a lot of people in their right mind have left the engine stock... a stock engined piped 250r is plenty fast for whatever you need to do besides dragging... and even then it was fast enough until the 450s came out...

I dunno man, I piped and jetted mine, with reeds, a K&N and modded airbox.... made a worthwhile difference.

Blasters should be gathered up, set on fire and tossed of a very tall cliff. So my opinion to this question is to get the 250r. There is no comparing the two bikes no matter what "Blaster Owners" will tell you. Majority of these people are idiots and have never ridden another bike let alone a 250r. Most people however will still consider the 250r one of, if not the best sport ATV ever built.

How can you all tell him to get a 250R when you have no idea of his experience/skill level? If he's small, slow, still earning, etc, the blaster would be a much better choice. And I've seen some SIICK stuff on project blaster.

I don't know about you but after owning something for a long time makes you want more power out of it. I can understand where some people limit themselves on a budget but not doing simple things like a pipe/silencer, bigger carb, etc. is pretty ignorant and boring when you have the potential to have a lot more kick in your powerband for a few hundred dollars without losing any reliablity! But if people want to leave the heavy 20lb restrictive pipe on there, more power to you (or less!):p

If you going to be racing a stock 250r, or a Built MX Blaster. I would go ahead and get the blaster. Just because the fact that it is already set up for MX, and seeing that is what you plan on doing with it. It also will depend on your age, weight. And why do you guys say it is such a waste? The blasters are meant to run in a certian class. Sure there not up to par with your 450's, but gez how does that make them such a waste?

yea I dont know about everywhere else but we have a blaster class for 300ex and blasters and whatnot

For the same reason $60 baby Nikes for a four month old are a waste.

Here' s his profile...

Born: May 4, 1991
Biography I love to customize and ride atvs, i have rode since i could walk. I currently have a very tricked out 300ex, but am hoping to buy a TRX 450r soon.

Having myself owned both a Blaster and an R, seems pretty clear to me he'd outgrow - even has already outgrown - the Blaster.

Tom TRX250R
12-20-2006, 12:02 PM
That is the other clear reason why a 250R is a better choice because he will outgrow the Blaster but the 250R he can mod it out depending on his skill level. A stock 250R is fairly mild but once skill goes up he can mod it accordingly. He also won't feel like he is riding a 90cc quad, everytime I ride my buddies Blaster I cannot believe how small it is, it litterally cramps me up on it so consider this when making a purchase. Also he has a Vitos 240 kit, advanced timing, dave moore port/polish, pipe, 34mm carb etc. Basically all you can do to the Blaster and it still does not feel like near the power my motor puts out. Also my motor feels a lot smoother, do blaster's not have counterbalancers?? Every one I have ridden seem to vibrate real bad?? Anyway, make the smart choice where you can grow with the quad instead of grow out of and get the 250R!

I clearly said that it also depended on his age and weight. I never did read his profile. How does anything you just said have anything to do with my quote? When I asked why is it such a waste I was referring to mean250r's post. It is not a waste to have a tricked out blaster. Some people just aren't ready to race the 450 class yet, so why not have a nice machine to race in your current class.

man that blaster is sweet but is that a blaster motor in it it kinda dont look like a blaster motor to me but it is still sweet

Cuz a built Blaster is a polished turd.

Why spend all that $$$$ to get a Blaster to do what a stock 250R would do?

The Blaster motor is 1940's technology.

The Blaster frame / suspension is too short.

Just get the 250R, leve it stock for now, and have a platform you can grow with.

lets be sensible the kid is 15, he can get his feet wet racing the blaster, there cheap, and they dont drop much for resale, your never going to get less than a grand for any running driving half way decent quad, as long as the kid doesnt want more than 2-2500 for the blaster id say go for , 250rs, at least around here are hard to sell, face it there is no market for them anymore, guys who want to be competitive are all on 4 strokes, and realize there 20 years old now, 20 yrs of wear and tear so unless your an r enthusiast (sp) i wouldnt consider it, chances are its going to drain your pocket way more than the blaster, and parts are cheap for blasters and youll learn enough from riding the blaster to move to a 450 within in a year, as long as it is in the same condition you shouldnet get less than what you paid

by the way, that project blaster, is that the maier front plastic the r style? and is that hood made for the plastic ? whats it off of?

SRH, The 250R is obsolete from what? Obsolete from racing because it was forced out, not because the 450's were kicking thier a*#!! I agree that Blasters are cheap but they are cheap for a reason because they are entry level quads that are limited on size and power when compared to other quads. The price of 250R's are down too because people that buy into the 450 hype. Don't get me wrong the 450's run great but the 250R is still VERY capable of running with them. I have embarrassed many people at the dunes and track with their "new state of the art" technology vs. my old "obsolete" 250R!!! Comments like that saying they are obsolete is just plain ignorant. I think for the money a 250R would be a great quad for him considering he can buy it fairly cheap and learn to grow with the quad once his skills progress. He wouldn't even have to dump that much in to be very competive on the track, just suspension, pipe, and a few other little goodies and he could be ripping it!!!

I agree, 250r's are very capable. I show up people when I ride my atc250r on tracks. You should see the looks on their face, when being passed by a trike!!!!!!!!!! I really don't like this 450 hype, its hype that was paid for by honda and yamaha mostly. First was the banning of aftermarket 250r frames, then the pro-production class and then the outright banning of 250r's.

Tom TRX250R

Deathman53, it is simply amazing what you can do on your ATC. My buddies have an 86 ATC250R that I ride on the dunes and occasionally the track but cannot ride it near as hard on the track as I do my TRX.
