if i got a HD rod for a 12:1 piston, how hard would it be to install? can it be installed when the cylinder is off and getting bored, or do i need to remove more stuff to get to it? Im fairly mechanically inclined and i have a clymers manual, but how hard is it to do? The fear of installing it is the only thing that is somewhat keeping me from ordering it

It's a pretty involved job that requires complete engine disassembly and splitting the cases. You will also need a jig to keep the crank halves perfectly aligned while pressing it back together, otherwise, you'll have serious vibration that will eventually grenade your new engine if you can even stand to ride it. You may be able to get the crank out, but then you'll need to get the rod professionally installed on the crank (about $75). If you're capable of doing that, it will save you lots of money.
