I've decided to ditch the bulky desktop and go mainstream with a notebook. Where do you guys go for the best deals on these? I've been checking out the Dell's because of the bundle packs and the customer service. Anybody have any suggestions? I don't live for my computer, just surf quad sites and burn CD's from time to time. I'm not a big tech freak, so thanks for the help.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with a 17" screen and would definitely recommend them. Excellent customer service and really good quality. Sony and Toshiba are also good, but Dell will come out to your house and fix whatever is wrong, the others won't.

Thanks, I will check out those sites. From what I've seen so far those prices are well within reason. If anybody has any others keep them coming. Less money for a computer means more money for the quad.

Acer, makes the best laptop for the money! Bought mine at Circuit City.

Hey guy, you will have to fill me in on the Acer brand. I have never heard of them and it seems to be a pretty impressive system for the money.

Acer is I believe the second largest PC/laptop manufacturer in the world. Although not too many people have even heard of them. I bought mine which is an Aspire 5000 1 1/2 years ago from CC, it's been great, no issues whatsoever. They are sold everywhere, Walmart, NewEgg, TigerDirect, BB, Buy.com, etc. Go into a store like CC and ask the sales staff which is the best laptop for the money and most will tell you an Acer. I have two other laptops, both Dells, the Acer is my top choice for the best value.

All i know is he bought his stuff from here www.newegg.com

Just trying to help. :D

Yeah I'm diggin some of the deals on the Acers. I'm checking out the Travelmate 1.66GHz and 1GB RAM. Sounds about right for me. These deals are pretty sweet. I was going to try the custom built but the only guy I know of in this area that does it says that he doesn't touch notebooks. Thanks for the help

Wow............is that good?? lol.
I justknow what a few of them mean so that is what I am going by. All I know is I don't want a turd when running multiple programs and a decent sized screen for viewing clips and images. and hi speed internet capability at a great price. U able to translate that into a good system for me?

That is Excellent. Dual Processors, 17" Widescreen. I run IE 7, Photoshop and mediaplayer all day fine, and photoshop is heavy on the processor. But again, that worked for me. It was a good deal, what I needed, what I wanted.

Dont get a laptop unless you need to be mobile. If its for home use buy a regular pc. you will get more power everything for your money and it is way easier to upgrade.

I have Both a laptop and a PC and i only use the laptop when i cant bring my pc with me...

^^^^That is fantastic advice. If I did not need to be mobile, I would have built my own PC, it is cheaper and better.

I was in the same boat so i still have the computer that i built and i got a acer laptop of tigerdirect.com. Its got a wide screen display, 60 gig hdd, a gig of memory, amd turion 64 proccessor and more.

It was about 750 dollars and after rebates it was about $500...

So far i have been very pleased with ACER laptops except for the fact that they come formated in fat32. No biggie. I also liked how it did not come packed with countless amounts of useless software thats hard to get rid off like dell, compaq, hp, and all the other major brands. Just a nice, clean installation of XP.

Structure wise the bottom is kind of flimsy but its a laptop. As long as you take care of it it should be fine.

Yeah man, the forst 3 hours of using tha laptop was deleting the vongo crap and rhapsody all of that useless crapola. I wish I had gotten the XP media center cdrom, that thing would have been formatted before the battery had been charged.

You do have a point. I really do not NEED a notebook. Its my thoughts that it would be a convenience factor to be able to take it with me when I go to school for training, however that is only two weeks every six months. I guess for about the same money I could get a decked out desktop Dell for about the same price. I guess a bit of reasoning is worth re-evaluating my situation. Thanks fellas.

I wouldnt even go with dell. Once again too much crap and not the same value. Yeah you get a free 50$ pice of crap printer. but ur paying for it in the end anyway.

I would recommend a hp nc8430, it's a business notebook and the fit and finish is way better than any dell or acer laptop. The frame is made of magnesium, the screen is a 15,4'' with a 1680x1050 resolution, core 2 duo processor with 4 megs of L2 cache, 1 gb of ram, 100gb hard drive, ati x1600 256mb and it's very light. I paid 1950$ CAN for it, but I bet you can find it for 1200-1300$ us and it will outperform any laptop listed here. It plays nfs carbon 1280x1024 high quality very well, even with many cars on the screen.
