View Full Version : 300ex cam trouble

i bought a 300ex and the cam bearings are out the little balls from the bearing i suppose are in the motor some where how do i get these out i am planing on puting a new cam,rockers and bearing anything else i should be aware of

1. try fishing them out with magnet and counte how many you had and how many you get

2. Or tear the bottom engine apart and get them...do not leave them in there...you can pay the piper now or you can pay him later...and later will be more

yea i was afraid i would have to split the cases

you shouldn't have to split the case at the worst you should have to open the clutch side cover there isnt any other place for them to go

i was just looking at some parts breakdowns and there is a oil filter screen could this have caught the bearing peices if so how do i find it

I'ed pop the clutch cover off first. I don't think anything of any size would make it all the way down to the bottom end. With the cam bearing that bad is the head even any good?

no both spots the bearing sets on are chewed up

well i took the clutch cover off and found the screen sprayed two cans of brake cleaner in the bottom got all kinds of goodies in the drain pan it was a little tricky getting the clutch cover back on i had to take a screwdriver and push the reverse lever up on top of the part that holds the screen in well i hope i got every thing out

yea those *******s are hard to put back on :scary:
