My dad has had his old 79 F150 for 25 years now.. and now its just sitting up in the barn.. we just started talkin and we soon to pull it out and start rebuilding it.

Anyone have any suggestions on what we should do to it?

Its a straight 6, and 4X4. Back in the day my dad had 48inch tires on it with a 4 inch lift, headers, and glass packs on it..

i would like to see it like that again but not as big of a lift and not huge *** tires on it.

Mike..

My $0.02.... if the I6 is in good shape, I would keep it. That motor is very strong IMO. Growing up my father had an early 80's F150 with that motor (manual tranny) and it was the last good Ford he ever owned.

even IF this is a highboy...their is not a chance in hell it had 48's with a 4 inch lift, if it was a highboy then MAYBE 38's with a 4 inch lift

Straight up dude thats wut I was going to say. We have a 77 F-250 and its got 4'' lift and its got 33's, there NO WAY you could throw 48''s under there! Even if you cut all the fenders.

Pluss it would break the axles, if you got 40'' or over deffinetly put Rockwells under it.

And it would look so ugly with no lift for those tires.

I don't think they made high-boys for F-150s. Funny thing, the low boys had more ground clearence than the high boys, cuz the transfer case hung down so low.

Its prolly a 300 I6 right? Those things'll run forever, thats a good motor to keep in there, if you want a sixer.

He claims he had 48's but i can see what you mean.. 38's.. yea probly.

Its got a 4 speed tranny, and the engine is still running strong, we just put a new clutch in it when it had 90,000 miles. Truck still runs good now, somtimes it backfires but nothin major.

I had a '68 step side high boy that my dad and i rebuilt frame up. Ditch the I6, if you're wanting to put anything bigger than 33's stick a 390 in it. As with everyone else i'm not sure how he would have even dreamed of 48's fitting. I had a set of 35's on mine and it looked awesome, until my dad sold it out from under me! what a jackass thing to do
