I am in the market to buy a 38 a/s carb for my 88 R. Question is where do you get the larger boot for it, so you can in stall the inlet from the aire box, anf the inlet to the reed valve.
Are there any pro's and con'd to changing to a 38 as carb for a 1988 250R. Stock bore mild porting, and running a full FMF exhaust system .

Thanxs

Just use a heat gun or hair dryer and heatup the intake boot and stretch it out until it fits. Once formed it will stay. If you go back down in size you can just put it in the freezer and it should shrink back down.

Use gloves the boot will be hot!!!

ok that sounds pretty easy. Now are there any pro's or cons to switching to this carb for my bike.

cons-it will lose a little lugging ability at light throttle. pros-when you wick it everywhere from idle to midrange it will run very strong. instead of gently easing in you snap throttle. i love mine. the new problem for you will be uncontrollable wheelspin everywhere.what a great way to use fuel:D

does anyone by chance know what the outside diameter of a 38 or 39 carb is, i have a mikuni that messures 47mm, and im needing a new intank manifold/intake boot, i found uppracing has one they make for a 38/39 carb, so i was wanting to see if the carb i have will work before i buy it

UPP makes an aftermarket mainifold that will accept the larger carb size. You could also use the manifold from the CR250, which fits the 38mm A/S nicely, although is slightly shorter and angled from the stock 250R.
