Usually a lot harder than "tapping" it out.. I had to take a sledge hammer to mine.

he said it was loose so he shouldnt have to hit it that hard.

hey bro ive just finished putting my 2000 400ex back together, i had nightmare time getting the swingarm bolt out . after lots of crc and blow torch it still made no difference . i took my quad next door to motorbike shop and they tried and no luck and advised me to put it back together . i said **** it and went to the ends with the grinder, and then with more heat and crc and a big punch and still no luck . anyway eventually ground both ends as close to frame as poss, then pryed frame apart , unfortunatly cracking it slightly and removed the motor and swingarm as one piece , got the frame welded , sandblasted and powder coated black came up sweet. as for motor and swing arm left it sitting on my roll cab pondering what to do next . i took it too an engineering workshop and we tried to press the remaining seized bolt out with a 30ton press. but it just bent the rod instead . last ditch effort was with a gas axe , because the swingarm could slide about 2inches it was moved to one side and gas cut , then the other side and the same done , finally after 12hours of stuffing about the swing arm was separated from the motor.
the last chapter in the story is the last piece stuck in the engine casing . again using the press we tried and were not sucessful . a 15mm rod was lathed at one end to fit inside the casing and finally it pushed out .
this episode put me behind by 3 to 4weeks but am pleased i did it as it came up great .
morel of the story .
remove your swing arm bolt regularly from new and you wont have so many problems
