400EX make's funny noise

My bike make's a funny pinging noise once in a wile when i rev it or wen i down shift. Anyone know what it could be.:devil

My brother and another riding buddy both have 400EX's and they both make the same noise. We tried like heck to find the problem with no success. So we recorded the noise and played it back and a slower speed and what we heard was amazing...

Their 400EX's were saying: "Ouch, ouch, that darn Z400 keeps throwing roost on me and kicking my butt... Ouch, ouch, that darn Z400 keeps throwing roost on me and kicking my butt..." They just kept repeating this over and over again."

They have both just learned to live with it and after a hard day a riding, they now spend a few minutes and caress their 400EX's to calm them down.

HAHA pretty funny dude :) .. So they didn't find a resolution to the problem. I might just take it in to the dealership and have them check it out.. Thanks anyways

its the cam chain my went out its like only buks15 for me that is for the camchain!! they go out i just recntly had to do it again i bought a heavy duty cam chain for mine and it made a difference it really is tough too!!!!;)

But the bike still run's great. No problem at all exept for that ping noise wen i down shift and rev the engine. And it only doe's it once in a will. Do you think it could still be that?

What grade gas are you running? I switched to 93 a while back, and mine runs much better now.

yeah kinda sounds like a fuel knock

So if my fuel was too rich it would make the engine knock. I just run regular fuel out of the pumps. What would you guy's recommend.:devil

sounds like you need a higher octane fuel...like premium... or you could try running the high octane race gas...but that might be a lil to much, unless you have alot done to your bike.

No my bike is just stock. Seems the problem only started wen i refueld yesterday. Il try changing gas tonigh.:devil

Being to rich refer's to jetting, if you where getting an engine knock, you might be a hair lean, but I doubt it. Like they said, ALWAYS run premium. If there is only 87 and 89, make sure the 89 doesnt have ethonal. That is bad news for your engine. 87 is better then the ethanal stuff. Try to run atleast 91.

Man,ya'll are diffrent....mine says

"dang,get this pro rioder off, me,he is riding so freaking fast,and passing all them z400's on the trck,he's gonna make the 400ex looks good or soemthing..."

Also,foir some reason,when I rev mine up,it goes "raaaaap raaaaaappp ruuubbbaappp"

Well i drained my gas tank last night and will get some of the good stuff for the bike tonight. Thanks for you help guy's. And as for what my bike was saying wen i recored it. Sounded more like maybe i should slow down so i want hurt that poor z400's fellings. But then again i don't realle care :devil
