I have been wanting to build a Kasea with a dual a arm set up for a while now.My son Austin is very exited about this project and is really wanting to get involved with it.I purchased a used Kasea Skyhawk and I already have a built 90cc engine for it so we started the teardown tonight.I am still doing some research as to who all makes a dual a arm kit for these.I know Hetricks does and we may go with those but I would like to see what else may be availible.I will keep you posted on the progress of this build.Kenny, you will be getting called upon for some of your powdercoating magic

We got it apart this far and then it was time for his homework. We will get it completely stripped tomorrow night and start welding in some gussets.

We worked on it a little more last evening and tonight.I did some welding on the frame and bearing carrier for reinforcement.I added some gussets to the frame as well.

wvspeedfreak
12-19-2006, 05:23 PM
Austin got the job of removing the loose dirt from some parts before I put them in the blast cabinet.

wvspeedfreak
12-19-2006, 05:25 PM
Found out both front hubs are cracked :ermm:

wvspeedfreak
12-19-2006, 05:29 PM
If anyone has a set of Kasea hubs they want to sell let me know.I thought I had an extra set around here somewhere but I can't seem to locate them. Here is basically the rest of the quad. The a arms and swingarm will not be reused.

wvspeedfreak
12-19-2006, 05:33 PM
Got all the welding done and some of the parts blasted. If we get some nice weather over the weekend I will be able to get the frame outside and blast it.That's it for now :)

I am surprised at how involved Austin is staying with this.He usually wants to ride but is not interested in the work part :D He has picked out all the colors for the powdercoating himself. So if it turns out looking like a rainbow don't blame me :blah:

LOL! Kelsey picked out here colors too(thats was a PITA to find too!:scary: )
So what colors are you going with??
rebuilds sure do take a looongg time, but at least you will have it done right :)
We got Kelsey doing some of the sandblasting - I think that was an eye opener for her to see just how time comsuming it all is !:p

We are going with a white frame, black a arms and swinger and yellow hubs. The plastic is yellow with a black/yellow seat cover.Austin got a little taste of sandblasting too...........after about 2 minutes he wanted to know if there was something else he could do lol.

MadSea862
12-27-2006, 05:28 AM
That's funny, cause that is almost identical to the color scheme "The Manimal" wanted to go with this year, except we have black plastic. (Curtosy of Hunter Titus's Dad) Yeahhh haaa go Weiner Dog Racing! :) That will be cool! If you guys ever go to Breezewood he and Colby would look like twins! :)

This project now has color:p A last minute change on the frame color, but it all looks pretty good.

I must say, I was very impressed with the K-Fab swing arm. Ive seen far worse for way more on full size atv's!!! Its now coated in a silky smooth satin black and I cant wait to see this build come together!!!!

Sorry for the picture quality throughout this thread.I keep my old camera over in the garage and that is what I have been using. Here are a few pics of the newly coated parts. We changed our mind on the white frame and went with yellow.I think it is gonna look good when it's all together.

I have the k-fab swingarm and it looks nothing like the one you have. Mine is a 3 piece swingarm works great with a 12" elka. We do have the same a-arms. My only problem now is my son ran a Cobra 90 and dont want to run the kasea anymore. I will post some pics. of my swingarm later.

rookiewrench
01-02-2007, 09:37 AM
Have you ever thought about the K fab steering stem that he makes, we have one and the combo with a arms and anti vibe is about as good as it get on a single a arm quad. Since we put it on in June my son loves it. By the way everything looks sweet, good luck with it.

wvspeedfreak
01-02-2007, 11:51 AM
Howmuchunow,I would like to see pics of your swingarm.Does it have the ride height adjustment?

Rookiewrench,I have talked in depth with Kenny about his steering stem/tie rod set up.That will be my next purchase.I just got what I could afford right now.I have heard it works excellent.

Yea no problem I just seen it on there and figured you already got one but thought I'd make sure. were just getting started on our 90, I switched over to disc brake in the rear so I don't need the stock stuff. mxdad423 what did you use for disc brakes in the rear? did you have to change to a eton/kasea rear axle or did you use the stock polaris setup (tubes) and find a way to add discs, we are at the same spot. but cant find a way to use our +4 polaris axle and add disc brakes that are bolt on.
Cheers

Justine at Maximum RPM has a rear Disc conversion kit, The conversion kit with a foot brake is around 200.00 that includes footbrake, Disc, rotor, rotor hub, caliper, and brake line. Dave carter is building me a Round housing swing arm and I'm using the +5 Dura Blue eliminator axle for a dinli but I think you can use any axle with the conversion kit but not positve, if you call maximum RPM they could tell you for sure. Hope that helps you out.

Man I hope mine comes out that good.....VERY NICE !!!!!!

Yea me and Kevin powder coated four frames and some small stuff all weekend. Those pics he posted do not do the parts justice they came out great. Everyones stuff got done but mine...... You and that yellow... now I'm going to try silver sparkles in the clear over the yellow, doing a test peice tonight. I need to start on my own stuff the only thing I have ordered are my duel a-arms from Dave Carter, I still have to get a order into Kool Kidz, Elka, and my E-Ton dealer who by the way just make us a team rider (Mosites Motorsports) 25% off that helps. Kyle's very proud of his Elka, Mosites And Kool Kidz Atv sponsorships.

Thanks, this delay in the frame has Kyle thinking about the frame color AGAIN.

Check this out if might be Super Mirror Black base (like Kevin’s cases) and Illusion Lapis topcoat. The hubs lollipop blue and the side cover and suspension Super Mirror Black with Super High gloss clear that I mixed a 1/2 ounce of very fine not ungodly silver metallic with.

If you want a really nice swing arm check these out, They are made by Dave Carter at DC Motorsports they are full round housing swing arms witch means no more chain adjusters to brake there are 2 styles a round tubing one and a square tubing one. The square tubing one has the chain tensioners built in on the top and bottom very nice...pic 1 ( round tubing swing arm +3)

mxdad423
01-23-2007, 09:01 PM
Pic 2 (square tubing swing arm +3) these are the ones I run on both of my boys quads the eton and the Kasea, and he can make them for either a 10" shock or a long travel 12" shock

The suspension is very nice but he said it steers really hard.I raised it up and nothing is binding when you cut it back and forth but when he is sitting on it,it is very hard to turn the bars.Is this typical of single a arms when they are extended this far? These are +4's.Other than the steering and a roller weight change it seems pretty good.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I know when we ran the single a-arms with those skinny tall front tires it didn't work well for us at all, the steering was very touchy and hard to steer, we switched over to these maxxis tires and it cured the problem. Like I said I don't know if thats whats causing your problem or not but I know it did ours. Here's a pic of the tires we run I even stayed with them when we went to the dual a-rms he likes them better than the skinny ones.

Yea they are new, I got the front's from west coast quads and the rears from Hetrick. They did change the rears a bit but they look good, the fronts were already race cut so that was cool I didn't have to cut them. The fronts were 75.99 plus shipping and the rears were 145.00 plus shipping. We really like the a-arms. You can adjust the camber to what ever the track contions are. I can put the shock in the outside mount for TT and dirt track then when we go MX racing I just move the shock to the inside mount. When I put the shock to the outside mount the whole bike sits about 2.5 inchs off the ground. When we dirt track Zack likes it when I put a lot of camber in it. Honestly they are nice to have if you use the same bike for different types of racing.

Etondaddy the frame looks sweet. Zacks 90cc mini is being powdercoated yellow but not as nice as yours. One of Zacks sponsors powdercoats safety products so we are stuck with yellow or red. But I love freebies!!!

I see you guys are from PA. Do you guys run dist 5 - 6 or maybe with the CRA? A few of us are looking to venture out of dist4. What part of PA are you guys from? I Took Zack to a indoor MX race in Andover Ohio. The place is called NEMX it was a great time. Looking forward to going back for the next race. Might go up into Canada for a couple of races. A couple of kids came down to are TT races. They also spent the night and went to Mapleshade MX with us. We all had a good time. So now it is are turn to go up north.

mxdad423

Etondaddy and mxdad423's kids run Dist 5, we live south of Pittsburgh about 50 miles we go to tracks like R&D raceway, steel City, High point, Wolffmann's, Pleasure Valley, Rocket, Field of dreams, and a few others. We only made it to Maple Shade one time, it's a very nice track but it takes us like 5 hrs. to get up there so we don't make it up there to much.

Hey thanks a lot, we put a lot of time and money in it, and take a lot of pride in it.

Well……… from what I understand some of the promoters got together and suid the district. Talking to Buddy little last night at the D5 banquet it should be over real soon. The hood came from Cory at Kool Kidz ATV. It's sweeeet he gets them from hippies that make surf boards in California. Kooool dude. It's the hole hood it uses the top to factory holes and you have to drill two holes at the bottom and they give you two push in clips.

Do you mind me asking. What gain do you get from using a dual a-arm system like that in which the upper and lower a-arms attach to the frame so close togather? It looks like it wouldn't be much different than a decent single a-arm setup. Is the suspension travel that much different?

Yes sir 12” triple rate on the front and a 10” single rate on the rear. WOW they are some fine pieces, all we had since we started where the 10” single rate Works. All I can say is WOW.

Got the front end all adjusted and tighten up today, looks great. Still waiting for my tie rods from DC they should be here tomorrow, Dave thought he had them on the shelf when he made the a-arms. Wait……. I just rembered it don’t matter I’m waiting on Dave’s anti-vibe steering stem saw one he made for a Kasea today made me glad I ordered one.

I forget exactly what the numbers are but we went from about 3 something (with +3+1 Hetrick single a-arms) to 6 something with this setup. Mxdad423 did all the research for me last year on his E-Ton (thanks Kevin). He always buys the stuff first Ha Ha. Kevin knows the real numbers.

Thanks! I've had people here locally ask me about those a-arms but I have no real first hand knowledge of them. They look nice!

Hey your welcome Mike you know I don't mind it makes things interesting for my credit cards, LOL LOL. The wheel travel on the hetricks single a-arms is approx. 3 1/4" and the wheel travel on the DC Motorsport duals is right around 6 3/4" and not only is the travel way better but with the duals the quad has almost 0% bump steer if it is set right, Now remember I am saying Wheel travel not shock travel, wheel travel is what counts not shock travel, now on the Kasea Duals they have about 7 1/2" of wheel travel and they only use a 10 1/2" shock, its all in the positioning of the mounts....I put the dual on my son's E-ton last year in mid season and WOW what a differance, He got a ton faster, Etondaddy will vouch for that. If you need any info on the duals just private message and I can hook you up with Dave he is a really good guy and builds real quality stuff, I bought the duals for the Eton last year, this year I bought a set of dual for the Kasea and 2 round housing swing arms 1 for the eton and 1 for the Kasea and also got the anti vibe steering stems for both. Everything he built me is awsome....

Hey Jason looking good, tell austin looks like he's about ready for the season. We got the 70 pretty much done except for a chain, Now the 90 I just got it started back togeather today, I welded the pegs on the frame for the nerfs before I got my front end and needless to say they were to far forward so I had to tare completly back down, cut them off and move them back on a nicely new powdercoated frame, that sucked but etondaddy and I stripped the bottom rails on the fram and did a patch coat, I was surprised you can't even tell.

Added a tranny saver to the Kasea today. He has only busted one set of gears and hasn't broken any since he learned to let off the gas in the air but I figured the added support couldn't hurt :)

I haven’t got much done but I think I’ve lost it, power coating the hubs…….yes, the collars for the bar pad…………maybe, but the break rotor bolts……… what ever. Heck might as well paint the collar bolts. I did get DC Motorsports steering stem on. The swing arm’s at DC getting a chain tensioner on it and the motors at the motor dudes. Hoping to get everything back next week.

Well it's starting to look like a quad...... I don't like hanging the front end hime joints out on the threads, so right now the front is 40.5" wide and the rears 44". I figure if I get some one inch front wheel spacers and turn the wheels around that will give four inches and the front will be 44.5".......... anyone got a set of front wheel spacers for sale ?

Man Kyle can't wait for race season I think he gave it a kiss good night LOL LOL

Etondaddy, I wouldn't run front wheel spacers or flip your rims around because it will place the center of the tire further away from the King Pins than it already is. If you want to extend your heim joints out a little on the spindle mount and a little on the frame mount side you could gain about 1 -1 1/2" per side depending on where the heims are adjusted to right now. All you need is 1/2"-5/8" of true thread attatchment to be more than strong enough to insure the heim can't pull out. Remove the heim and measure in 1/2" and color that area with a felt pen. Now assemble it back together and make sure no color is showing. Now do all of you adjustments to square everything up for proper caster, camber and forward length. Back the lock nut all the way out and measure the gap and cut a piece of tubing, 1/8" shorter than the measurement, to make a spacer and place it in the middle and tighten it down. The spacer OD now strengthens the heim so it won't bend and it will be just as strong as being inserted all of the way in. You can also do like I did and find alternatives to standard heims. This single A-arm front end is 42" wide with the tires at 3" in - 2" out.

Look at the heims at the frame.

Those are a linkage mount for a large Polaris Sportsman that takes a 10mm frame mount bolt and a 1/2" NF reverse thread bolt that I tigged in a 7/16" NF stud to attatch to. It just extends my A-arms out farther before the tubes take over and is actually a stronger heim than the standard ones that I used before. This will help reduce the stress off of the spindle and keep the tire from moving forward and backward while turning and make the tire spin on it's center more than it's inside while turning.
