How hard is it to install a 400ex motor in a 250r frame and if anyone has done this can they post pics?

Thanks

why dont you just get a crf450x, wr450f, yfz, or 450er motor instead. all of them have a ton more power than a 400ex and come with that magic button

The reason I don't want one of those motorsis because liquid cooling . I don't want to deal with any of that anymore. I have a pretty sweet 250r now and would like to keep the chasis because of its handling and how lite it is. So I figured I would look into dropping a 400ex motor into it.

How about something a little bigger with electric start? Say a XR650L or XL500? That would be a great machine.

xl500 would be a great motor for the woods which thats what i'm looking for the 650 may be to big. How would the transmission hold up in a quad frame?

I'd go out on a limb to say the 500 and 650 are comparable in size. The 650 would be easier to find motor parts for as well I'd imagine.

You do realize the 250R's weight advantage is mainly because of it's motor, right? You'll likely end up with an overall heavier quad because the 250R's frame is built heavier than a 400EX's.

why dont go with a atc350X engine

a lot of hybrids had those engines in the 90's

Not to sound the wrong way, but why dont you just fix the cooling problem/engine? Guessing that your having problems with that. a R engine with a good top end in it is about as easy as they come to start also. Just a thought.

There is nothing wrong with the motor. It runs perfectly fine. You guys are missing the point of the question. I don't care how lite the bike is and i don't care how much faster it is in the woods. I just want a reliable quad that is " push button start" and is not liquid cooled. I have alot of money in my R and with more HP comes more problems and I'm tired of it. So if anyone has a picture of a 400ex motor in a R frame please post it.

Thank You.
