Are the cracks all the way through?
Are they cracks or defects in the casting?
Do you ever remember looking at it before this, to see if they had been there all along?

I'm not 100% but I belive I have looked at mine and said "Man Honda did a crappy job of casting this"

sorry I am not much help:square

Mine looks the same way. Pi**ed me off for a second when I went to put in the 416 kit. Looked at it from the inside, and all was well.

for years and a tool and die technition and what happens is over and over 1100 degree alumminum is injected into the die (mold)and it puts heat cracks in the die and when the part comes out it apears to have cracks.

do you think that an engine can get that hot

Im saying that the die that made the valve cover had heat cracks and you can see the cracks on the valve cover.

Absolutely correct. I just bought a new cover, it has casting flaws that appear as cracks, but not. Don't worry about it. I did however develop a crack in the mounting bolt eye that bolts to the upper frame member.
