how does the stock suspension on the older 400ex's do on the loosest setting in the dunes?

IMO, i think it does great.

the back shock is alright but the fronts just aren't that great. if you pick up a pair of 450r stock shocks, they have reservoirs and work alot better. they will fit on a 400ex with just a tad bit of trimming (grinding). this is a really popular conversion and works well.

I would really suggest doin the elka dune series its worth it plus with elka you can send it back and get the valving for dunes mx xc

Here's Sandshot's 450r on Dune Edition Elka's. Hi took his resi stocks & placed them on his girlfriend's 400ex. Huge difference + looks nice with the red springs since she has red plastic!
