How good are the 98 and up S10s. Are there anyproblems with them? I'm deciding on what to get as in truck wise. How are the 2.2 motors? what about the 6 cylnder motors?

i have a 2000 s10 4X4 with the 4.3 v6. does really good. i have gotten any where from 19 to 21 mpg with it. runs good but i wish it had a 5 speed instead of the automatic. and the quad needs to be lifted over the wheel wells(sp?) i am thinkin about sellin it to, only has 92000 on it

Well the 2.2Ls only have 120hp. They are kinda slow. I have a 98. Everything is crammed in under the hood so they aren't the easiest vehicle to work on. my banshee is 48" wide and like posted above you have to lift the front atv tires over the wells.

i had a 99 s10 2.2 4cyl 5 speed
those trucks will take a beating and keep going. i beat mine to hell and i never had major problems other than the rearend going. they ride nice and are good on gas. i sold it for 500$ with only 100,000 miles on it. i kinda wish i took care of it cuz i miss the truck.

i have a 98 s-10...2.2lt 4 cyl...gets about 25 mpg...has hauled 2 quads many times with out a problem...might not be fast doing it, but then again, you shouldn't be doing 90 with a load...

i have replaced the right pitman arm 3 times and i think it needs it again. there is rust all over it even though i washed and waxed it weekly...check the acb corners right behind the door for rust...one day mine looked fine adn the next i had a hole the size of my fist...the other side is starting to go now too...the fender wells tend to rust out as does the front of the bed. also about 4" down dewm the top of the bed and halfway between the wheel well and front of the bed tends to rust right through... when i went to get estimates for repair, i was told those are common places on s-10s...
i have repaired 2 fuel line leaks in the last 2 months(one was just monday when i lost about a half a tank of gas in my friends driveway) where they rusted through and last winter my rear brake line rusted through causeing me to have no rear brakes for the drive home from work
motor wise...i haven't had any issues

the 4.3's have been good to us i personally had 2, one (89 gmg jimmy) with about 250k on it before i parked it and the oil pressure was still like 40 lbs, engine never opened. and the one i have now thats a 99 zr2 pickup. all in all i got better mileage with the 89 motor but like the power of the new one. my 89 i got 19.2 mpg on secondary roads only the 99 i got a best of 18 on the interstate but i never get on the interstate for very long and if i do its in the wind.

would you like pics of my rust?

the one was recently sprayed over because of a deer vs my truck...it was a tie...the shop was going to fix it, but it was about to collapse so they just sprayed over it...

in this pic, you can see about 1/4 of the spot just under the front wheel of the bike...

i had a 99 s10 4.3 5 speed, and i loved it, never had any real problems with it, it was a pretty fast truck, and you can make em real fast, heres 2 problems that i know s10's are bad for, the hinge pins on the doors are junk, they will need replacing at some point, but they dont cost too much, and the adjustment handles on the seats are very weak, alot of people break them off on accident, mine was a step side and i couldnt fit my quad into it, but you can fit it into a regular bed s10, also, i kinda beat my truck, didnt do alot of maintenance, and it never missed a beat, always ran just right
