Yeah i had no problems with my e start till the second moto of my last race...... it craped out on me so i had to bump start and let it run at the start gate for 20 min.... Not something i liked while runing the 208. so i decided it would be nice to have a kick backup.

I was curious when you convert over to a kickstart, does the carb have the place for hotstart with the kicker? And does the kit include the cable and stuff for the hotstart?

czrider263
12-13-2006, 06:09 PM
No there is not a hot start......

Yeah...whats the deal here...who makes the kit? Also, are you talking about running the kicker as well as the electric, or removing the electric?

400exrider0004

I am not sure who sells the kit becuase I got all the parts seperate. Pappy did all my powdercoating and so far it has help up fine. Im sure czrider will be glad to help

I don't think anyone sells a kit. You just have to buy all you parts from Honda.

12-16-2006, 08:10 PM
How long did it take you to do the conversion and how difficult was it? Any special tools needed?

czrider263
12-16-2006, 09:44 PM
I would say if i did it in one shot it would take 3-4 hours. It takes that long only because you have to drain the colant and trans oil; pop off the right case, and take the whole clutch off. Yes you either need a clutch tool to remove the nut or and impack gun. Once all that is done the actual instalation takes 10min.

400exrider0004
12-16-2006, 10:17 PM
Yes I advise you get a clutch tool holder because I snapped my clutch basket because I didnt have one:rolleyes:

So its the kicker from an 06 450R, but the one from an 04/05 is about 1/3 of the price...does the 04/05 kicker not work with this setup?

That plate is not neccary. it is a left over part from the 05 days. if you try to install it there is no bolt hole for it.

do you mean the kick start itself or the internals? because you def need the 06 internals

Romp013

I meant the actual kickstart arm - pn: 28300-HP1-840. The 05 pn is 28300-HP1-000 and it is only like $40. Dont seem to be much different

i have been told by two different people that say they have made the convert, that the 04/5 kick arm will work but that you have to sand the inside of it a little to get it past the clutch cover.
if you don't have to have the kick start emediatly, i would say to install the rest of the parts and just try one of your buddys kick arms off an 04/5 to so how much you have to take off before you spend the cash.

05 Kicker arm will work. I just put the kickstart on my ER. I'm actually thinking about doing away totally with the electric start, but you have to buy a new carb w/hot start, new CDI, new wiring harness, and a couple of other small parts.

i have been useing mine either way, but mostly with the kicker for 4 months now and haven't had any problems. aloso i believe honda did do it this year on the 450 bike, the one that has a head light and is more set up for trails.
