Well anybody who has dealt with a '04 or older 400ex know about what a pain in the balls it is to put the rear fenders back on because of the stupid battery placement. I know some people on this site have relocated their battery in different locations and I would like to try. If you have or know abything about doing this - please post it here. And with pics if you can!

Thanks

I have a 2006 and it's not any easier. Honda should redesign this on future models.

There are air boxes that you can relocate the batter to. I have seen someone (there is a post if you search for it) relocated their battery to the front by the steering stem, and someone else who put it up behind the lights (I think...)

get a aluminum airbox. Your battery will relocate in side of it.

I wonder if you could put it behind the airbox.

I would much rather put it in an air box than anything else, reciently iv been havin problems w/ my battery so iv had to use a jumper box to get my 400 started while i wait on the battery in the mail. I would really hate to have to hook up that jumper box to a battery under the front plastics.

If you have a hood i think you can just put the rivet type things that hold the plastic on in there and it wouldn't be to hard to jump. I don't know but i think the 05-07 models have a hood that will come off so it may work fine.

I have an aftermarket airbox in wich the battery sits, this is good until you try and take the battery out wich is a real pain as there aint much room, when I recently put a new battery on my quad I also installed one of those permanent charge leads that plug into an optimate battery charger, as its now winter over here I may not be riding as much as in the summer so if the battery goes flat while its standing I dont have to remove it to charge it.

you can get one on ebay for $112 shipped with lid, or with out lid its like $97 shipped.

I bought one and its held up fine until the bracket that held the battery down broke and the back started cracking, then I bottomed out over a 20' double and cracked the entire back off when the box hit the brake line.

Hey 400exMO could you give a step - step on how you did that? I'm interested in doing it and not sure how to go about it. Also if you could say how you did it Dhumpalo, I would be very appreciative.

my friend put his up under the headlights but then you have to screw with the wiring to make it reach up there and that's not fun, I built a stainless steel airbox and put the batterie in there as well as the sylinoide i went throught alot of boxes before i came up with the stainless steel ones the batterie kept going through the bottom you have to make the box strong

If you buy a UM air box and think your gonna have problems with it blowing out the bottom or falling apart.. buy one and add some addt'l welds to it to make in stronger.

I have one and have no issues,, yeah the battery fits tight but do what someone else said and hook a lead up to it in case you need to charge or start it.

Keep looking on here or ebay for a used one.

IMO putting the battery in the airbox cluters it up too much. It makes it a biatch to mess w/ the battery or get to the air filter to clean. I tryed it, and put my battery right back where it is supposed to go. Plus U can't run a crankcase breather in the airbox if you've got all that stuff in there.

If you put the battery in the airbox and don't clean up the subframe (shaving mounts), well, that looks a lil haggard.

does it really mess with the air flow cuz if it does ill just move it up under the hood because wiith no battery the quad just looks smoother and it is true one has to shave all the mounts off.

only problem I have seen with that front mount is you can't get your steering stem out now......... and if you get an aluminum airbox its best to go ahead and make yourself a stainless mounting bracket, because the aluminums will crack if ride very hard
