Do any of you guys think I might be able to trade a 2001 Sportrax TRX400EX for a 2002 or 2003 Yamaha Raptor.I still owe around $4,800 on payments and the 400 is in excellent shape(with plenty of accesories) in the N.A.D.A. book its average retail is $4,630. Do u think i would be able to?

I would highly doubt that you'd ever get $4600 on a trade for your EX. It's nothing against your quad but you get raked over the coals on trade-ins, especially new ones. I'd more realistically expect around $3800-$3900 if your quad is especially clean.

Sell it out-right to somebody. That way you get more money and somebody gets a better deal. If you trade it you will get reamed on it dude.

I agree that usually selling to a third party brings the most money but I couldn't sell my mint 01 400ex for $3,600 to anyone - and the dealer gave me $3,900 for it. I know you are thinking that the dealer just jacked up the price of the new Raptor I bought but I had budgeted $5,800 for a new Raptor, and if I had sold my 400ex for the $3,600 I was asking (which I couldn't even sell for such a low price) and then bought the Raptor I would have been out at least $2,200. I traded in my 400 plus $1,900 for my Raptor so I came out ahead by trading in my 400. The bottom line is that you will be lucky to get $3,900 out of your 400 from the dealer, or even a 3rd party. Good luck and let us know how you fair :)

There is no way that you're going to get out of that 400ex without coughing up some cash.... Sorry.

If the bank still has the title then just to sell the quad you are going to have to come up with the difference between selling price and payoff out of pocket. If you go to a dealer they can work the numbers and roll some of that into the Raptor payment but with the low price the dealer will give you, plus the high payoff plus the fact that they can only loan you so much money on a Raptor purchase you are going to have a tough time making that work.

Good luck.
