Sorry if this is a re-post.

Have any of you done anything for oil cooling, like a larger oil cooler, or and fan on the oil cooler, to run more air through the cool and run air over the engine in slow, hot riding conditions?

Here's a thread on putting oil coolers on 300ex's if that helps you at all or gives you an idea.

^^^^^ That is slow. I would disregard anything that guy has ever said or done. Plus he has a yzf motor in it so the radiator is in the way of a stock 400 oil cooler.

...Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure if a yzf 400/426 has a oil cooler:confused:

I just fabbed up a B&M cooler to my 400EX

this is what I used

http://www.bmracing.com/index.php?id=products&sid=4&cat=20&subcat=28&pid=73

11"x5-3/4"x3/4"

I have noticed a big enough change in internal working temperatures because the drop in oil temp almost to the point where I think I need a jet change... or the new colder air around is really getting to the bike

I would recommend this to anyone, the coolers are cheap and to me just some added insurance

I've been toying with the idea of retrofitting a Hyabusa oil cooler in the place of the stocker with a utility atv fan. The Hyabusa cooler is the same width and thickness, although it's a 10 pass cooler.

In regards to a 400EX... I installed a larger oil cooler from Desert Toyz in Peoria, Arizona... Really nice bolt on piece!

If it means anything, I have not had any troubles with the 416 engine here in 100 degree plus weather conditions... :D :macho

mounted mine here so it gets better flow. In stock spot not much wind can dont get to it.

I like the idea of where you mounted your cooler... However those coolers are supposedly very weak and any small debris may pose a problem.

How long has your cooler been mounted there? What conditions do you ride in? If everything has been fine so far I may re-mount mine down there just to get some more air... or maybe make an aluminum scoop to feed it some fresh cool air

It been their for a while. I only do mx type riding. It dont need to be mounted way up front like mine it could always be mounted down by the oil tank and sticks and stuff wouldnt get to it.

That would be a very vulnerable spot if you actually race MX or ride behind someone a lot. If you mount it there it would probably be a good idea to make some kinda of screen out of a peice of expanded metal of some kind for some of protection from roost.
