Does anyone know the difference in lengths between the Kand N air filter and a Uni filter?

a k&n is bigger than the stock one....quite a bit bigger, but they r chit. don't get one. i have heard it advertised thet uni is actually a little smaller than stock...i dunno how true that is...generally a bigger filter will flow more air because there is more surface area.

My k&n looks the same as stock size. No matter what k&n is #1 for performance. And i never had dirt get sucked in yet.

My K&N was shorter than the UNI i got. The UNI i got said 400ex & 450r on it so im sure its the right one. My uni was probably a good inch longer than the K&N. I had to end up crushing the metal mesh core a little on the end and make it kinda oval b/c it wouldnt fit right in my UM airbox.

I have had a K & N on my 400ex for about 5 years and I have never had any problems with it.

I found the K&N to be lacking in filtering fine dust, and since thats mostly what i ride in i switched to a UNI. They are more well known for workin better in dusty conditions.

The 400ex uni is bigger than the K&N. Also the 400ex and 04/05 use the same uni filter.

Sry for the change of subject. u Know i find that the people who have filters want to be able to oil them and not get their hands dirty. Thats why ppl with k&n end up getting dirt in em. Get the recharger kit. Oil the hell out of it and the outwear. And work it around in your hands. Or invest in a 5$ box of 100 latex gloves if your that big of a Pus5y.
Edit:Keep the lid on i know i don't but when i ride dusty i put it back on.

K&N is a great filter i have never had a problum with it just as long as you oil it well you'll never have any dirt get through

i get dirt into my intake evrytime i clean it...and i have a k&n...it is alot larger around the center than the stock filter. it is not longer though. UNi or Twin Air is ur best bet.

it worked great for me for about 2 months. i clean it all the time. about every 3 hrs of ride time. i ride with a lid on...more in muddy conditions that dusty ones. started to get dirt iin my intake after about 2 months. now it has been about 3 months and my valve seals r bad, and my top end needs to be redone. i do oil them like crazy. i am only able to oil my filter about 3 times per recharger kit that i buy. i go by the directions with the kit for cleaning the filter....and it still flows dirt into my top end. i haven't changed my filter yet because there is no sense in it when my top end needs to get done anyway. i will be getting a UNI when i redo my bike...hopefully over this winter.

do u need anymore explanations?

all u got to do is ask other ppl on this site too...most of them will agree. in fact go to this thread (http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=268290) and u wil see what i am talking about

Just as an FYI - it is possible to "over"oil an air filter. Too much is not a good thing, I would suggest following the directions as close as possible. I have not had any problems with any of K&N filters in any of my vehicles: 2002 E55, 2005 600RR, 2006 400EX, 2006 Acura MDX, 1988 BMW 735I 6spd.

i would run a K&N in a street bike or car, but not in a quad or dirtbike. they do not work well with really dirty conditions.

also, i have never over oiled my filter. i do exactly as the directions say.

ya i got the white bros on my 300ex, and it is amazing. the thing never lets dirt through no matter how long i let it go without cleaning it. infact, it was so caked with dirt (the bike is my dad's now and he never does anything to maintain it) that it was hardly getting any air, but when i cleaned it...there was no dirt in the intake...there is the proof that foam filters r that much better

I have around 8 years on my K&N and I have yet to have any problems. They are not for everybody, but having one does not always indicate problems.
