Have a stock '01 400ex going to a 416.
have read the 400ex's have a problem with deck hieght of cylinder screwing up compression raitos. Does this affect all bore sizes the same, or not so much on smaller bores? I know it was a huge factor for the 440.

does the wiseco 11:1, and JE 10.8:1 actually achieve the advertised ratio or even close with stock gaskets?

Has anyone actually checked the measurements for final CR after everything torqued down.

I'm trying to go as high CR as I can and safely run 91 octane. I know 11:1 is borerline. So I'm leaning toward the JE.

Hotcam stg.1 going in as well. want lots lowend pull.

I believe JE's numbers are accurate. I ran a 416 10.8:1 JE and it pumped a psi very close to the number it should have theoretically pumped to. I've not run a Wiseco in a 400EX so I couldn't say for sure on those. There has been some Internet talk here and there about Wiseco's not meeting the advertised compression ratios (seems you've heard some of the same things). I don't know if this was an issue for specific bore sizes and comp ratios, some particular batch of pistons, or what. I've never seen any difinitive info on that.

I had to run a race/pump mix in my 10.8:1. Even with my previous 406 10.5:1 JE I would get just a hint of detonation under certain conditions. But those conditions where tailor made for bringing about deto--high temps, huge loads (up hill sand drags), near sea level elevations, and not very good gas (Phoenix area 91 pump, a boutique blend that seems especially poor). I never ran race fuel in the 10.5:1. I'd just back off a bit on the infrequent occasions I detected deto. The 416 10.8:1 would deto badly enough and often enough that I couldn't really ride how I wanted without running a race/pump mix. I could trail ride on 91--especially at higher elevations--but couldn't rip it up without the tell-tail pinging of deto.

I ran WB Track cam in the 406 10.5:1 and a HC stg 2 (old version) in the 416 10.8:1.
