Is having a big system in your car and it being louder than everyone elses really worth losing your hearing over time?

heres a link of a measure of decibels

I am interested too. I can get certain things at dealer cost. Some of those are Pyle, Power Acoustik, MA Audio, Dual, and a very limited amount of MTX stuff.

I was thinking of going with a Power Acoustick setup. Do you have any experience with them? Good/Bad?

This is the route I went for my system.

Used the stock stereo out of my ranger.

$250 I got....

2 Audioban 12s
1 1,000amp Crunch Amp
All the wiring

for $50 I got 2 snaptogether/screw boxes from wallyworld.

Pounds pretty good.

Eventullay I want to fab my own fiberglass box

actually bass hurts ur eyes more than ur ears, ur ears cant pick up the low waves up close, thats y it sounds loud far away and when u cant see where it is coming from, tweets damage hearing, bass have lil to do with loss of hearing.. but if u notice difference in ur sight it's bc of bass

and for my 2 cents, i have a friend who bought to memphis 12s that pound with a 500 d class amp, and they pound, bought it all for 200 dollars, u just need to keep looking till u find up ur looking for, and dont settle for less b/c u will never be happy with it

What are you running? Mine is hitting 138.6, and I can hear my highs really well over my subs. And yes I do think my highs hurt my ears worse than my subs....oh well I guess ill just pay for it later on in life...

This was my daily driver, back when I was into DB drag. 8 JBL GTi 10's powered by 4 JBL 1200.1's. It did a 150.1 at 32hz:macho

If anyone is from Oklahoma, stop by Hi Voltage in Duncan. It's my dad's. He's built quite a few that have hit 153+. He built a van that hit almost 165. American Bass is the best you can buy......I guarantee it.

sound splinter, RE audio, Adire audio all top of the line stuff I had 2 sound splinter 8's and they put lots of 12's to shame as far as bass and sound quality, best subs I have ever owned

Mine works great too but they are not close to the best. More like mid range.

In my experiences in the custom car scene, those that have mad moud sterios never turn it up above 25%.

I'd save yer mney and buy something loud enough, and put the rest into some go-fast parts :D :D

well if i were to go buy an all new system it would Be JL to the max but if you buy cheaper sub like i started with i started witha 10 inch dual and it hit harder then my friends dual 12 inch legacy with a 1200 watt amp and i only had a 300 watt amp cause its all in the box you dont have a thing with out a good box!!

IMO nobody can say that _____ sub is better than _____ sub because it's all personal preference and all work different in different applications. Shop around and don't blow your load on things that cost a pretty penny because you don't need to. L7s can get loud, but certainly aren't the best. Save money here and there and buy some deadening.

And Scro, great install.

I have a fosgate head unit and old pheonix gold 280w amp running 6.5" kicker components in the doors. Eclipse 6"coax off the head unit in the rear for fill. and for bass I have a custom centre consol with a cerwin vega 10" powerd by a cerwin vega 350w bridged mono. This is plenty loud and crystal clear and I still have back seats kinda. oh it hits about 110db not comp but plenty loud for a work truck.

im with ilpadrino113. most people that have loud systems always turn them down. they are fun for a while, but then they just get annoying. i had an l5 in my truck for a couple months and for one sub holy **** that thing would pound... we set off alarms 2 rows over in parking lots. after a while i just kept the gain at 1/4... realized it was stupid to have that big of sub in there and put my 10" comp back in. bumps plenty for me and sounds way better with rock. but its all preference. kicker supports a lot of motorsports things so i went with them, and was extremly pleased. most of the brands you'll hear in here are all good, you just have to pick one.

here is a pic of the box that I built so I could have a sub and still use the back seats if I had too. there is just one sub but it is o.k.

i used to be really big into this around 2 years ago but just kinda fizzled out since then... i still do installs for my buddies but dont really compete enough to amount to anything anymore... right now i have:

4 Kicker CVX 12" dual 4 ohm
2 Kicker KX1200.1
Pioneer DEH-P7700MP deck
Audiocontrol Epicenter
Diamond audio mids

in a 2004 Chevy Tahoe...

my loudest to date pulled mid 150's on a termlab and it was:

2 RE MT 15's
2 Directed 2400D
same deck, xover, and mids
same tahoe...

and the guy with the GTi's from north alabama do you know Justin Thornton? i believe ive seen pics of that box on his cardomain page before... and i know hes from that area. if you do tell him Zach Taylor says hello

Nah it's a silver..I think its one of the nicest ones out right now. I plan on doing half of what he has. I figure that will be enough since I'm not quite as much into car audio like I was before.

It can hit a 150.8 at 27hz ;)
