Looking For 85 ATC250R Rear Shock

I have a friend who is looking for a rear shock for a '85 250R 3 wheeler? I dont much about these but can you use any type of aftermarket shock as a replacement or a shock from a 250R ATV?? Any help would be appreciated.

any r shock will work on that model from 85-89. the only thing different is the hose. 85-86 atc have a shorter hose I beleave,but if he has his old 1 he can have it switched.

The 85 shock has a smaller ID bottom hole, if you put an 86 to 89 on it you will have 1mm of play and will oblong the hole in no time. Stay with an 85 shock if you can or figure on switching out the rest of the suspension parts if you change it to an 86 to 89.

^---- that and the rezzies for the trx's are larger and you'll need to swap it. the '86 canister cradle is removable and will allow you to mount the rezzy to the outside of the frame but, the '85 cradle is not. so you'll need to make use of the OEM canister on a trx shock if used on the atc.
