i have been thinking for some time about getting a GPS for mapping trail locations. and to help find new routs and to share with close riding friends.
has any one done this?

I was looking as some and most of the newer ones have a least 2000 trackpoints. So if the GPS will auto trackpoint every 8 to 15 seconds I could get around 3 hours of data.
and most have topo maps you can get for your PC and GPS to map them out.

and I could manually put points of interest out on the trails.

Does any one know if this will work as good as I think it should!!!

I was looking at

give a holler to avr-project over on paatving...i think he is the one that has done this for his trails...if it wasn't him, he should be able to direct you to who it was...i have been interested in doing this also

saw one in Dirtwheels or somewhere that allowed you to track other friends location on your unit also, that would be great for big groups on the trails if you get seperated

def get a topo map program, its awesome, especially if you get lost.

dont always rely on your gps and always carry a compass.

its great for hunting too, u can mark off good spots when scouting
