I have a 440 ex, and when i go to start it, it sounds like the gears in the starter, or something around that area just spin. It just makes a wiered noise and doesn't turn over. I took apart the starter and it looked fine. Someone PLEASE HELP ME !!!

Take off the starter and jump it with a couple of wires to your battery. See if it works in order to isolate the problem.

Use a fresh charged battery also. If your battery is weak, there is not enough current flow through the solenoid to engage the starter. There may be enough current to cause the starter
motor to turn, but since the bendix did not engage the flywheel, it wont start. The sound you hear is the starter motor turning without engaging the flywheel. Sometimes a couple well placed hammer taps in the right spot will also free up the bendix, if the battery is not at fault....

make sure the gear in the starter comes out so it will attach to the flywheel and turn the engine over. just loosen it up a little. Unless you did that already. but Good Luck!:)
