yeah just wondering if a 400ex rear shock will fit on a 06 450r because id rather buy a re-built elka rear 400ex shock then spend a grand on a rear shock from elka. let me know thanks!

i beleive the 06 shock is longer than the ex. the 06 swinger is 1" longer too.

they'll bolt up...

The 450r shock on the ex lowers the ex's ride hight. If it lowers the ride hight on a ex then a 400ex shock on the 450r must rise the ride hight.

could it be the libkage is different?i think the link arms can be flipped to alter ride height,so can changing the shock adjustments as well;)

On a 400ex if you flip the links up side down the shock wont mount. I found that if you just switch the links around like the front link in back and the back link in front the ex sits slightly lower.

I think the link that mounts to the frame on the 450r is the same as the 400ex. The link that mounts to the swing arm i think is differant. Maybe you just have to run the 400ex link cause maybe its longer which would mount the shock lower.

the 06 rear shock is substantially longer than the 04/05 shock.... use what is designed for your quad you will be much happier

I would just send you 450r shock off of too gt thunder/derisi/C&D etc and have them set it up, it will be just the same as the elka rebuild anyway

yeah but elka doesnt rebuild the rear shock for a 450r. so i was going to buy a 400ex shock and send it out. i have like 300 bucks and thats enough to get it rebuilt. i dont feel like spending alot of money. but i need like a 100% sure answer from somone that the 400ex rear shock will bolt right up to my 06 and work great. thanks

but why do you need an elka rebuild specifically? there is little difference between their rebuild and others, getting a gt thunder or Derisi linkage and revalve should be right around $300 and should a C&D rebuild

Personally I would call GT Thunder and get his linkage and revalve

But you can't go wrong with C&D (site sponsor) or Derisi

I would opt for either santo derisi or GT because of the additional linkage. That is really what changes the way the rear end rides. I have also heard really good things about C&D as well, and I have C&D rebuilt fronts and love them.
