my 426 with mods in sig, it depends on how i ride. a general trail ride, in 2-3 gear, below 1/2 throttle and with some playing around and hillshooting i get about 70 miles or so. WOT trail riding, only about 40 miles. a stock bike should do better though.

wow..that seems very low as far as MPG...70 miles per tank which is about 2-1/2 gallons in a tank..thats less then 30 mpg on a single cylinder air cooled 4 stroke engine. I thought for sure it would do better then that...

but you gotta remeber, it is not a street bike. it has much lower gearing, and it varies greatly with how hard and where you ride.

im just shocked becasue I have a 150 cc. 4 stroke gas scooter..and that gets around 80-100 mpg..but I do understand its geared differently..still..only 70 miles on a full 2.5 gallon gas tank seems very low..28 mpg doesnt seem like much...I definetly need to get a 5.5 gallon clarke gas tank :}

I went almost exactly 100 miles one day on a ride, and by the time i got to camp i was strictly on fumes, mine was totally stock at the time and i rode it like i normally do, pretty aggressively, i was at about 7500 feet elevation

With my 416 on an agressive trail ride I will go about 24 mpg. Thats working pretty hard averaging about 20mph. I will say that I have gotten alot better but like everyone else says its all in how you ride, were you ride, and your gearing setup.

but your scooter is very light, and made more for MPG. the ATV is very heavy compared to the scooter, geared low, and and is a higher performance motor. i mean a street bike only gets about 50-60mpg and that is geared higher and on smooth roads, not going slow at high RPM's through mud and muck. my brother had a cbr600 and only got about 50mpg with it, so i dont think that 30mpg is bad at all. but then again, IMHO 15mpg is good MPG for a vehcile, i hate hearing people complain about their civics only getting 26-28 MPG lol

I've rode from my house to the petro station about 25 miles away. I got there and back and it appeared I still had a good amount of fuel left. I'd venture into saying stock 400ex probably gets 40mpg if you're not trail riding it

I would estimate that my 400EX gets about 60-70 miles on a tank of gas if I am doing average trail riding. I have never taken an exact measurement though. Keep in mind that my "trail" riding is desert trails where I am riding in 5th a lot of the time at 3/4 throttle so I am revving the engine quite a bit.

When I go to the MX track it is a whole different story. I usually go thru 3/4 of a tank of gas in one night (~3 hours). It probably works out to about 40-45 miles on a tank but I am full on the gas, full on the brakes, full on the gas ... the whole time riding hard in 2nd and 3rd mostly so my engine is working hard.

I remember when I first got my quad the guy said I could ride all day on one tank. It wasn't until the engine was "broken in" that I could go past 20-30 miles on a tank.
