well i want another dog after my pit bull mix died and my mom doesn't really want me to get a pit bull because we have two other dogs ( 1 full grown lab and a toy poodle)

Will a full blooded pit bull be aggressive to my other dogs? what if i raise it right from a puppy?

My old pit bull was found when i was out riding dumped on the side of the road so i had to take him home. He was the best dog I've ever had (had him for 8 months) He wasn't aggressive at ANY way and just acted like a little puppy all the time(he would crawl all over he when i was sitting down and he would always jump into my lap like he was a 5 pound lap dog) We had to put him to sleep due to heart worms about a week ago(he was 3-4 years old) and my lab is so sad now that she's always alone.

Also what other kids of pit bulls are there? I know like a block head pit and pit bull terrier.

Also do you know what my old pit bull was mixed with? He had a big head and big feet and weighed 76 pounds.

Also we have a big fenced in back yard for them to run around in. If i got a puppy i would keep him inside until he was big enough to be left outside.

day i found him

Well, I got a pit/dalmation mix, and before her I had another pit mix only it was a male. They are pretty cool dogs and they get along with others so long as the other dog is cool, at least that is how mine are.

if you raise it from a puppy you shouldnt have any probelms. make sure it gets plenty of interaction with the other dogs and the whole family and it will be fine

They are great dog's just spend as much one to one time as you can with it just like any other dog and they'll turn into just as much of a lap dog as a lab etc.

My cousins pitbull is a 1 year old male and the only thing it does to my doberman is just chase it around and play around with her till she finally gets fed up and shows him her evil side but the pitt just runs away to my cousin, never trys to hurt my dog or anything..

Pitbulls can be the best dogs in the world, If they are raised in a loving environment from a puppy, and have had a lot of interaction with other dogs, I have a stafforshire terrier, they are the smaller pits, theres american bull terriers, they get somewhat bigger then the stafforshires.

thats my lil petey the pitbull at around 3 weeks old, he was sooo small:p

Here's my grandfather's 110lb. pit bull. It was absolutely the best dog I've ever seen. Great with us when we were kids, excellent watch dog and carried out every instruction you gave it. His name was Spike :D

Both my brothers pits and my old pit were great dogs. Its all in how you raise them and keep them interacted with other dogs and kids. My 3 year old son used to jump on, pull his tail, and play with his ears constatly. All my pit would do is roll him off and lick the snot out of him. They are good of dog as any. I had a toy poodle one time and that thing was mean as hell! I got it from some family and he didn't listen worth a crap and was just mean. Needless to say he didn't stay here long. I would never have a problem getting another pitbull.

if your looking for some well bred, red nose pit bulls check out gladiatorkennels.com it's all old school red nose.....as far as different types of pit's it just comes down to breeding lines there are so many different lines these days....to name a few red nose, boli, jeep, crenshaw, colby, you get the picture and each line usally excells at something.....today most breeders are producing what sells, overly large dogs that aren't athletic....take your time and look into alot of different kennels and be sure to explain what you are looking for in a dog and a good breeder should be able to get you want or atleast point you in the right direction-jack

i went to a big dog adoption thing today and they didn't have any pit bulls :(

I have 9 pitbulls (all pureblood). I have adopted them all and one of them I bought as a pup. All of them are just 65 pound lap dogs, and they are only agressive if you hurt them, or try to mess with thier food. They all play with my mom's 7 month old jack russel pup. As long as they were never fought you should be ok, but if they were fought...then most of the time they are corrupted for life...:(

Good luck Joe;)

My friend has a pit and never had a problem. Just make sure that the pit grows up with the other dogs and in a loving envirorment and you'll be fine

First off....I dont have a Pit, I have a wonderful purebred and WELL bred American Staffordshire Terrier, which is VERY similar to a Pit Bull. I went with an Amstaff because I am not particularily trusting of Pit breeders - alot of them are inbred and mis-bred.........(not all, but how can you tell?)

For all bully breeds, it's CRITICAL that you get a pup and raise it WELL SOCIALIZED and in the manner in which you need it to behave. If you have other dogs (hopefully non-aggressive) and you got a bully pup, I would think it would be fine with those dogs. Bully's get into trouble when they want to be dominant, and so does another dog......but when raised with other dogs it's not usually an issue until they get older......if at all.

I personally would not adopt a bully dog (meaning, Bulldog, PitBull, Mastiff, American Staffordshire) - for the main reason being how critical it is that the pup is raised and trained properly. When you adopt a dog, you have no idea how it was brought up, what it went through, if it was abused.....etc. And when dealing with a bully breed, those things are SO IMPORTANT!! Adopting might be fine for some people, but I have kids and other animals, and just would never want to take that risk of a dog that seemed wonderful to just snap one day for no known reason.

I took great pains with my Amstaff from day one - I selected a breeder who bred for a wonderful temperament.......I raised him with cats and kids, and taught him to be non-aggressive with food (food agression is the beginning of other aggressions), with other animals, etc. I used to take him to the bark park when he was under 9 months old.....to socialize him well with other dogs. And he was always so happy to play.......(I don't take him anymore....not worth the risk of someone bringing in their aggressive dog....)

Anyway.....I think a Pit would be fine if raised with your other dogs......do alot of work with the pup when it's young, and it will pay off when it's older.......

All dogs... not just pit bulls, are only as good as you train them to be. If you are a good trainer or pay for a good trainer, you will have a good dog.. If you don't bother to train it, or you train it to be agressive than thats what it will be... Contrary to popular belief, this goes for ALL dogs.

I AGREE.....but with the bully breeds, the consequences of poor breeding, improper uprbringing, or just plain irresponsibility can be more severe than with most other breeds.....

That being said, I adore my Amstaff - I will always have one of these dogs in my life....best dog I have ever had......well WELL worth the effort!!! :)

i think if a pit bul is raisewd right from the start it wont be aggrestive with other dogs. i have a pit bulll but im not sure if you are firmilliar with camden but its like the second worst place in the world and thats were they found my dog. i think somebody trained it to fight other dogs because thats whast alot of the guys there do. the thing is my 7 year old sister tortures the dog and he has never done anything to her. she even painted him once.:p
