Can somebody help me identify this cam i just got? I was told that it was a hotcam stg 2 but im not sure now b/c it dosent say hotcam anywhere on it. All it has is a "M" right in the middle of the cam, turn it over 180* and there's a "3" on it...
It also has a press fit cam gear flange and no decomp mech. on it it that helps.. I was thinking that it might be an old stage 2.. Am i right??

The old HC stg 2 is etched with "HCDG NO. 08". The markings you mentioned are like those of a stock cam. It's probably a regrind. There's nothing etched on it anywhere else??

The "new" Stage 2 that I have has HOT CAMS engraved in it, so you can scratch that out. Don't know about the old ones, though, but if it is indeed a Stage 2 Hotcam it is probably the older model.

Just checked out the stock cam and it has those markings on it. I am gonna go with what GPracer2500 stated.

Theres nothing else ectched on it but i think its something factory made. i just looked at another stock 400ex cam and it had the same "M", but on the other side of this one it had an "A". Hhmm, maybe the cam i got is an xr400 cam:confused:

The letter and the number 180 degrees apart can be different cam to cam for the exact same cam.

Where did you get this from so we can steer clear of the same mistake. Also post some pic and we could probably identify it. How much did you pay for it.

I just got a wild hair and got it off of ebay for like $50. The dude selling it sounded like he didnt really know if it was a hotcam himself.. Im gonna measure the lobes tomarrow and see if its different than the stocker, if its the same then i guess i might have a pretty paperweight:o
Ill try to get some pics of it sometime too...
