new to old tranny Q's

well, i finally figured out that the 99-04 trannys have shorter gearing than the 05+ and now, im wondering, i'd like to have a slightly shorter 3rd gear, so would putting a 99-04 3rd gear in it show much of a difference?

i'll admit i know nothing about trannys, any views or opinions

what do you mean by shorter? like how longdo you stay in third gear till it revs out?

well, i ride dunes, and i do a lot of uphill racing, but i also do a lot of san dragging, and my gearing is awesome aty the drags, but for racing the hills, my 3rd start to slow down towards the top, and i want to shorten it a bit without sacraficing any other gear with sprocket changes....its hard tryin to get the best of both worlds, but....
