i just picked up my 05 450r today. i still have my 400ex until its sold.

something i noticed right away is that my 400ex can turn much tighter. i compared and the front steering of the 400 angles out alot more then my 450.

would it be possibly to maybe take a 1/4" or so off the collar at the base of the stem that bottoms out how car the tie rods push out? this way they tires could angle out more and turn tighter?

im jsut guessing a 1/4" but whatever is enough and not going to cause any clearance problems

yea im jsut always about making it work. we go through some tight trails and that extra angle is nice.

i havent taken the 450 out anywhere but my backyard yet so i wont touch it. its definitly alot of fun tho

One of the first mods I did was shave down my steering stop so it would turn better. a 1/4" is way to much. I think I took off about an 1/8". Just take off a little at a time. Make sure it doesn't over steer or lock up the bars in a full lock turn.

Definetly make shure it wont let the tire to turn to far. If they are event close when your turning and hit a little rock or somthing the handle bars will lock when the tire goes "past center".

My 400 did this for a while, when the steering stem got worn out. I rolled it in a corner before I ended up puting a spot of weld on the stem to prevent it.

sounds good ill be messing around with it this week then.

now when you are saying it can lock up is that from the one tie rod being so far in and the other so far out at the stem?

I ran my 450r all season without grinding down the stem, I finally did a couple weeks ago and then went riding all day.

I wish I would have ground it down a long time ago.

Do it. Just dont grind off too much.

If you take off too much it will over steer. The wheel will lock up in a fulll lock turn to the point where you can't pull it back straight.
