I was reading my new January 2007 Dirt Wheels (pg. 87) and saw an article on the Terry Cable Dual Gasser Thumb/Twist throttle.

Does anyone have one on their quad or ridden one that has it? Would like to hear what you think.

I am thinking about buying one. Should work with the FCR 39?

If your not familiar with what it is. Its a combination Thumb/Twist throttle all in one. Apparently, it will fit most stock applications. It doesn't work on FCR Keihin carbs that have the built-in kill switch.

I might be getting one, the only concern I have is, if the twist throttle and thumb work, only thumb-solid grip, or only twist-thumb won't move. I can see it really screwing up riders if both function worked at the same time.

there is a pin you push in that will stop the twist from twisting when you are using the thumb

sweet. I will def get one of these. Ive always wanted to try a twist....so what it does it if you push the thumb, the throttle tube locks? Wont the thumb get in the way when using the twist?

no, the rider has to actually push a pin in to hold the twist in place. it was made for team races so people with different preferences could still be on the same team, just push in or pull out the pin (depending on your preference) and your on your way

Sounds like a really great design. That's one of the things I was wondering about. Thanks for the info. Now just need to buy one? Is C&D Racing selling these yet?

They due take up a lot of room on the bars. On my Flexx bars I will not be able to use my Powermadd hand guards. I am looking for a different set up for my hand guards

Our team has been testing one now for a couple of years. Our desert team has had absolutely no problems with this set-up. It is the way to go if you have riders that prefer different throttle types. It pretty much works the way it has been stated above. Push the pin in and lock the twist to you can use the thumb. Pull the pin out and now the twist is free to use. No, the thumb does not get in the way at all for the twist rider.

I assume with the pin not pushed in to use the twist throttle. Then one could use both simultaneously? I assume that the twist has nice short throw?

X-tech what grips due you use?

I use Oury grips for motorcycles. We use the standard Maier handguards with the inserts that go into the bars. To make this work, we cut the ends off of the grips. This also gives us about an extra 1/4" of room.

The twist seems to have a pretty standard throw. I'm not to experienced on the twist because I am the thumb guy on the team. My partner loves the twist, so I'm assuming the throw is fairly common.

You could probably use both at the same time, but we've never tried it.

I WANT ONE.. I can see this saving alot of thumbs when you are riding for a long time.. I like the thumb throttle for technical stuff. and the twist for cruising to riding spots..

Ive always thought of thumb and twist together nice to see it now..

I thought I would share my opinion on this combo Twist/Thumb throttle now that I have one. I got it just in time to install it and use it on my 416ex for New Year's Eve at the dunes.

Installation was very easy and I didn't have to change the throttle cable for 39 FCR at all. Just made some minor adjustments (as expected) and ready to go. The throw on the twist throttle was very short. Idle to full throttle without having to double-clutch the grip is an added plus. The thumb throttle never interfered with the twist throttle motion. I went with the Spider Slim Line SLX grips. They didn't require any trimming to clear for the thumb lever. It seemed as acceleration was quicker due to the short throttle.

Thank you C&D Racing!

how easy is it to swtich over the thumb. Is it something that you can do while on the go?

The only thing that locks the twist throttle movement in place is a pin that you push in and out (in the pic it is located below the thumb lever). You can run with it locked or not. I guess if you want to switch around you could run with it in the unlocked position. Though probably not something I would recommend for someone new to that setup.

so Cobly, if I grab one of these, willI be able to switch to the twist during easier parts of the track and then go back to the thumb during the rocky stuff or will it be hard to switch over on the fly?

id like to answer that question if thats ok.....I bought one for my gf for xmas and it took her about an hour to figure it out the first time, once she did she was embarrassed (its super easy) and was doing it with ease from there on out. People tend to really overthink thinks when there too easy, I mean cmon it cant be that easy right?, wrong its that easy lol

I love mine, the thumb throttle is kinda of a far reach, maybe its just how I had the stock 250r thumb throttle. I use the twist throttle most of the time, its a great product, thanks c&d for the good price, I'm stuck too much into a twist throttle. Its a real short throw, I like that for mx use.
I give it 2 thumbs up for someone who has friends that ride his bike sometimes, can't decide wheather he wants only a thumb or twist throttle. Woods riders would love this product, the twist for non-techincal trails/fire roads and the thumb for when going over logs and such.

We used one on the 07 TRX450R we raced at the Baja 1000. The thumb throttle feels very close to stock, and all of the twist guys on the team liked the 1/4 throw of the twist. It's a great design that uses the stock cable. Despite what DW says, it will work with the newer 06/07 450R Hondas. Here is a link to the install instructions we used for our 2007 450R.

ok so I bought my GF one for xmas and she FINALLY got it installed....now heres the rub . The bike accelerates (from a stop) harder using the thumb over the twist . Any advice?, it should be exactly the same right?

it might be like that because of the rider. If twisted it all the way open(the same as probaly was done on the thumb), they would accelerate the same. Also, it might be something about the whole thing with the twist throttle, its hard to twist it if you can't keep the front end down, its rather easy to do that on a thumb throttle.

didnt notice that someone replied

maybe but shes a very experienced dirtbike rider/ desert racer and I dont know about the wheelie power of a 1997 yamaha warrior thats never had any maintainance on it:devil:, it would probably be easier for me to just fix it for her but she'll never learn if I did, was just curious if anyone else had noticed that.
