does the 450r engine have less longevity compared to the 400ex with comparable riding?
Any maintenance differences besides maintaining the coolant?

The 450's engines are very reliable as long as you change the oil frequently due to them only holding a quart of oil and do normal maintenance. I ride my 05 almost everyday for hours at a time and have never had a single problem. Each bike is different tho but overall they are just as reliable

450R's are much more high maintenance than 400ex's IMO.

Have to worry about Engine Oil Changes, Tranny Oil Changes, Valve Adjustments, Chain Adjustments, Air Filter Cleaning...etc etc.

I'm sure the same stuff has to be done to a 400ex as well...but the manual calls for an oil change every 20 hours on the 450R's...and I do mine every 10 hours :).

My manual say 100 hours or 600 miles for an oil change. I change it about every 10 hours. I also put a full quart in the trans.

1 quart is all... wow . I change mine in the 400ex about every 20. so itwill actually be cheaper for me to buy only 1 quart instead of 2-3. but then the tranny oil huh? O.K. valve adjustments are probably the same. I heard once a year for a weekend warrior rider.
It seem s like a lot of people here are saying they are rebuilding their motor again. So really i'm asking if they wear out a lot faster than the 400ex, maybe because their putting out more power\compression.

100 hours of racing.......
One clutch basket
2 sets of brakes
3 chains
1 valve adjustment
intake valves ( after about 85 hours of racing )
I clean the air filter and change oil after every race..
