I have a JAGG external oil cooler. Whether it works or not i dont know. Im sure it must do something. Install is super easy and doesnt take long at all.

in the first photo u can see the cover that replaces the oil filter cover. Theres two 90 elbows tapped into it with two oil lines coming out.

in the second photo if you look directly behind the front left shock you can kinda see the cooler mounted on the frame.

Oil coolers are a GREAT idea for the 300ex. Especially if your motor is modified at all. Not necessary on a stock motor.. but certianly won't hurt anything.

You'll notice the heat difference.

i notice the top pic has the oil cover inlet system and the last pic doesnt so where do those lines go?

does an oil cooler change the amount of oil that needs to be added into the quad?

what sites sell these oil coolers?

i appreciate your help

Hey I never thought of that, do you need more oil? Also can you just slice in to the banjo? This is a GDH Racing off eBay. What do you think? I could make one of these set ups with a tranny cooler.

Yes, you just cut the copper oil line and connect the lines to the copper tubing.

I'd also have no issued with getting that from GDH. I've always gotten top quality sservice when I buy from that guy.

You need a small amount of additional oil. Mine uses almost exactly 2 quarts of oil now. Just a hair shy.

to me that ghd racing one is the same as the fst coppied one way or another, but they have the same concept all you do is cut the oil line going from the bottom end and cut the top and its done very easy to do and is a wise investment i think. I had a fst one and for i think it was 100 dollars it was worth every penny. I would dif recommend fst's oil cooler over the others. on the ghd one though i would cut the oil line coming from the bottom lower than what it is out now, i bent mine coming straight out only had maybe 3 inches. this kept the oil line pretty much in a straight feed to the cooler and kept the oil as much as it could away from the engine also didnt know if it made a difference but it looked better in my eyes.

Okay cool. I like both companies but wouldn't buy either, I would just fab. my own. How do you make sure no metal stays in the line?

bwamos
12-01-2006, 12:40 PM
You flush it out the tube before reinstalling it. Just like you would any other part you modify. ;)

It's not rocket science. Your just rerouting the oil injector line through the cooler before it gets to the head.

It's just a small transmission cooler.

You can see it in my picture. (fuzzy becuase it's a zoomed in portion of a larger picture). My oil cooler is a FST cooler.

It's the only copper tube line that goes from the lower cank case to the head on the right side of the motor (clutch side).

Jagg coolers are nice, but they are sooooooo expensive.

Get one from FST, or another engine builder for under $100. U-Haul's tranny coolers are cheap and work well too. ;)

Guy's............. Go to Summitracing.com and look in the power steering section for oil coolers. they have many different shapes that will work perfect for $70 or less. One is even rated for ATV use.
Or go to your local Automotive speed shop.

Yes it's the same motor (jsut added more stroke, an e-start, and a couple other minor things).. it will work great.

By expensive I mean $225 vs $75. 300% the cost of the competition. (smaller cooler too).

You hook the reinforced rubber oil line hoses coming from the cooler to the coppper tubing line using hose clamps. I have disconnected, and reconnected mine many times over the last 7 years, and it has NEVER leaked. So I wouldn't worry about that. There's not that much pressure there.

honda300EXtreme

sound simple

so just cut the oil line in the middle and then what bend it outwards a little?
than connect the hoses i like that ebay one but i havent seen his

auction up there latley maybe im just missing it ???

i apreciate your help alot ;)

could some one send me a pic of where it installs on the actuall oil line ??

id be really really greatful

You could just ad a 400ex oil cooler or even a couple 400ex oil coolers. Just cut or add oil line as needed and hose clamp it down or make mounts.

Can't you use a 350X cooler, using the stock filter cover? I was told it would bolt up. If no one else has tried than I will, and let you know. Has anyone though?

You acn use any oil cooler as long as your oil lines will hook up.

Thanks, but I was just curious if the 350X filter cover would bolt in place of my stock 250X/300EX cover.

Yea that would work. The oil filter is the same on both bikes so you could just use the 350x oil cooler.

250X_project
12-12-2006, 07:58 PM
Okay thanks!! Now the filter is the same, but the cover is as well?

Caseys 300ex
12-12-2006, 08:20 PM
Yea they should be all the same because the enigines are about the same exept for the bore and how you start it.

250X_project
12-12-2006, 08:30 PM
bore and stroke are different, but they are both kick starts...well the 250X and 350X

bwamos
12-13-2006, 07:30 AM
Actually the 350x is totally different from the 300ex motor. Closer relative to the 400ex than the 300ex.. but not even close there.

Great motor.. but there's a LOT more differnt than the same on the 350x vs. 250x.

Filter cover may work though. Bolt pattern looks very close. Worth a try. Probably for the same filter.

250X_project
12-13-2006, 05:49 PM
I know that. Don't get me wrong, I was just stating that both the bore AND stroke are different. I'm almost sure they are the same filter. Must be a close bolt pattern...

Yeah true, it is important to keep the info correct. You never know how many people read the contents of these posts. At times I find myself looking at post that are a few years old. :D

12-14-2006, 03:14 PM
Oh wow sorry for the miss info. I thought that they where close in comparision. There was a guy on this site that put a 350x oil cover on his 300ex so he could run a cooler but i forget who it was.

250X_project
12-14-2006, 07:29 PM
Oh, don't worry about it. ;)

Thanks!! That's what I needed to hear. I'll give it a try someday...

When over 400cc's but not real high R's, would it be worth it to run 2 coolers? (1 on the filter, and 1 spliced into the banjo)

I NEED A PICTURE OF WHERE THE RUUBER LINES HOOK ONTO THE COPPER LINE, PLEASE!

thank you

250X_project
12-27-2006, 01:05 PM
Look at the 1st page. My 1st post. What is left of the copper line is shown at the ends of the rubber hoses. Then it just attaches back to the engine where it came from, along with the extra lines and cooler. ;)

while the 350x filter cover will bolt up, only 1 line goes into the cover. the other line on the 350x motor comes off the side cover from the oil pump and goes to the cooler, then down into the oil filter cover and into the filter. so you would need to drill the 300ex side cover to accept the other line, it already has the mounting boss cast in, just isn't drilled. you'd need to block off the feed to the oil filter cavity in the side cover too. also the 250x and 300ex side covers are not the same, they have different oiling passages, and the 300 has a oil pressure regulator in the cover.

as for the oil cooler hook up, i'll try to get a pic of my buddies, but its very simple. you cut the line about 3" from the head banjo, reverse it so it faces forward, then clamp the lines on. it doesn't matter which lines go where. also use 2 clamps on each line. thats the best way to cool the oil because it gets cooled before it goes to the hottest part of the motor, the head.

250X_project

Hey thanks! I think I'll make my own with the banjo, then then cooled oil goes on the rockers....
