Hello everyone,I'm brand spankin' new here and thought I would pick your brains with a massive problem I am having.
I recently bought a '86 250 trx.The guy I bought it from had put rim's(11's) and tires on it from a 400 forman.
So last week while out hunting ,I noticed somthing drasticaly wrong in the front end,I limped the bike home and removed the front left tire and hub, only to find the bearing sleeve portion of the hub shattered.I ordered a new hub and 170$ later, the bolt pattern was not even close to fitting the 11inch rim.I called the old owner of the bike and asked if he had changed the hub's to fit the 11's,he said no they where the orig hub's.So now I'm kinda screwed,I dont know what hub to order that will fit my 250,and also fit the 11's.BTW Iam not sure if this matter's but before this happenedI replaced the front wheel bearing's and they fit the axle and hub perfectly wich leads me to believe they infact are the proper hub's for the bike and also fit 11 inch rim's.
I have had 4 different people from all over god's green earth tell me 4 different hub's that I need,so as you can see,I am starting to get more than a little frusterated.
If anyone can give me some correct advise I would be very thankfull.
Thanks Alot
Aaron

You could drill new holes in the rim.

yes drilling new holes is my last resort wich is beginning to look like my next step.
Just a question but im begining to wonder if forman 400 hub's will fit my trx 250.
thanks for the reply.

Ok I just had a look at the rim's and It looks like I will not be able to drill them.Honda has these silly cut out's right next to the holes.
So once again I am stuck looking for the mystery hub.
Anyone know of any trx pro's that can give me a deffinite awnser to my massive headache?
Thanks
Aaron

If the hub on the other side is good, remove it and take it to your dealer and have them match it. They may have gotten you some type of hub for another quad. Sometimes there can be a few minor changes during the year the bike was made. Be sure to give them the model and serial number off of the frame.(i.e.TRX250E-S ........)

Are they able to just "match"things?I ask one dealer and he told me that without a part # there was nothing he could do.If someone could acually look at the good hub and say"ya thats a _____" that would solve all my problems.
thanks for the reply

First off, welcome to the site. If you cant find your answer here, you probably wont find it.

Post some pics of your hubs if you can so we can see. To me it sounds like the wrong hub was ordered. Lets see some pics!

just to sum it up,the hub fits my 86 2wheel drive honda trx, last owner put 11 inch rims from a 400 foreman on the front but swears he DUD NOT have to change hubs,But 250 hubs dont even come close to matching.and 250 bearings fit both the spindle and the mystery hub.Confused yet?I know I am as well as the many people who are trying to help me.
Thanks again

I just spoke with Honda and they confirmed that the hub I need is NOT a 86 250 trx hub but couldnt tell me what one I needed. So anyone here know off hand what hub will fit 250 wheel bearings and a 11inch rim?
Thanks

You could measure the distance of the studs on the good hub and cross reference it with a parts catalog to see what it is.

fourtrax,I dont understand, how would measuring the distance between studs help?Wouldnt that measurement be the same for all hub's that fit 11"rim's?
I really could use some help here,is there no one that could tell me what hub will fit 250 bearins and the same bolt pattern for a 11"rim?I cant believe I am thinking of getting rid of my first quad because i cant find a f'n hub.
I have called dealerships, second hand places, so called mechanics, and no one can tell me what I need to know?
Please someone throw me a friggin bone.
Thanks

First off the size of the rim should have no bearing on what hub you need. The important things to look for on this hub are the bolt pattern which is what fourtrax explained to you to measure, and then the number of splines inside of the hub. Try getting those and then we can go from there.

the distance from one stud to the next is 3 and 1/8 inches(center to center)and 4and1/4" across. As far as the splines are concerned there are 3.(by splines you meen the little bumps in side the center of the hub?)the sides on the hub are 1and1/4 deep, and there are the words"MAXDIA 161mm"stamped lightly on the inside of the hub.
Thank you so much for your help,it is greatly appreciated.

ummmm what bike is this? i know you said a trx 250, but is it a 250r? or a utility bike?

aaronvan

i found one that looks just like what you have at servicehonda.com.

go to their site, and use the remote desktop thing under the parts menu and you can pull it up yourself. sounds like your parts dude just ordered the wrong hub.

ok I found a hub for a 250trx on the site you mentioned P#44610-ha8-680,but i dont know how to check the dimention's to make sure it is the one i need?

aaronvan
12-28-2006, 10:04 AM
so I called them and the guy said he could not find any dimention's for the hub ie,bolt pattern or anything like that.he said the only dimentions he had where 250mmx92mmx202mm but he had no idea what these ment, nothing on my hub has these dimentions, imk thinking these where the packaging dimentions.Did you happen to find a diagram or a picture of the hub that you think looks like mine?
thanks

yeah, if you use the remote desktop tool, there is an exploded diagram of the front wheel/hub/bearing assembly. it appears to be the same thing as your pic.

i got on rockymountainatv.com to pull up your bike and it says you need either a 4/110 or a 4/130 bolt pattern. you said your bolt pattern was 4 1/4 inches on center which translates to 108mm, so i'm guessing you have the 4/110 pattern. the 4/130 would be just a shade over 5 inches.

thanks for checking into this for me I'm a tad "we tar did"lol.
so my next question is if I order the 4/110 honda hub the inside bearing sleeve should be the same and fit the 250 wheel bearing's?
I hope this solves my problem.
Even when I contacted honda they faxed me saying"only one hub was used on 86 2wd 250 trx's." and the one they said I needed turned out to be wrong,so thanks guy's for helping me out.

the 4/110 means nothing as far as the bearing sizes go. 4(lugs) on a 110mm (across center). what i think happened is the parts guy just sent you the wrong hub. however you can double check this by measuring your bearings and cross referencing your measurements with servicehonda.com's bearing specs. it will have an inner and outer measurement. good luck
