Well, my friend has been bugging me for the last while to drag race his brothers 660 Raptor w/ pipe and dynojet kit. He thought it would smoke my 06 450R w/ Rossier, Hotcam stage 2, jetted w/o air box lid.

I never got to race his bro's quad, but i did race another 660 w/ wisco upped compression piston, hotcams, k&n and yosh pipe and i SMOKED IT.

So now my buddy thinks that when he gets his 700 raptor it will kill me. What do you think?

The old 660's weren't the fastest quad...

But the new 700's are a different story. They are very fast.

I'd imagine it will come down to who gets a better start, and who the better rider is....

Don't underestimate the 700R...they are torque monsters.

I've done a few drags with my buddy, he has the 700 craptor. Consistantly beat him until top end then he was gone, but that was with a stock 450, not saying i'll will beat him now but just hold on alittle longer. I've rode his bike to and the powerband is wierd to me on that thing, seems to really get going when you hit third gear, just my thoughts

stock 04' R vs' 06' Raptor 700 with a Trinity pipe

I had the R and didnt stand a chance. he had me on the takeoff because i cant keep my R's front end down and on the stretch's i just simply cant keep up. the new 700's are an excelent machine...my hat is off to them.

A 700 without work is a turd. Where I race, in the sand, I can leave them horribly whether it is on my 450s or my EX.

My friend has a raptor 700 with a doebeck controller and hmf exhaust and when we race we are neck and neck. Before he had the pipe and controller I could take him. I have a 04 450r with hrc kit, pipe, cam, piston.

The 700 is a great bike. I also like the 660 but my 07 450r stock will take the 660 by about a bike on a drag. The 700 stock I can take out of the hole but if it is a long stretch those big cc's will catch you and pass you.. Like someone else said it has a lot to do with the rider and the the take off. All of these bikes are built to compete with each other and they are all pretty close. I have not seen one bike stock actually beat any other race bike by any large margin.. It all boils down to what you like and the way the bike feels when you ride it.. Just my opinion..

I always ride with my buddy and he's got the 700r with a trinity pipe, and when we drag i'm usually up front by about 1/2 a bike, but with the raptors topend he slowly starts to creep past me, but in a 250ft drag its always a good race 300ft he wins usually.

i have a 06 450r with a stage 2 cam and jet kit and pipe and a raptor 700 with a pipe wanted to drag me and he ran with me almost every time i beat him everytime but he was right on me like crazy i never beat him more than a bike length but put a raptor 700 on the track and see who gets smoked of course the craptor

I do agree with that... I can take my 450 through the woods or any tight trail and the raptors are left way behind.. They are not as nimble in the woods. I would still have to say that the only bike I can not just run away from in the woods is the 400 ex and of course the banshee.... Overall I still love my 450r...

I raced a 700 rappy in a 300 ft drag and beat it by a at least a bike lenght everytime. I have a 06 w/ st 2 and a Rossier he had GYTR and a efi controller. I was the heavier rider by at least 60 lbs. By the videos we took It's clear I smoked him out the hole everytime. With a better rider who knows maybe that rappy could have got me but I doubt it.

I've been wondering about the 700. I don't know anyone with one. Two guys I ride with have the 660's, I have raced one with a full HMF,rev box and jetted with lid off. I'm not sure what kind of filter. I have no problem beating him in about an 8th mile race by about 3 bikes or so.The other crapter I haven't been able to race yet. He has a full Yoshi and jetted with lid off. I don't know about his filter either.I do know his gearing is different from stock. I'm not sure if it's crap talk or not but he seems to think his crapter is faster than the other one I've already beat.Sould I be worried about his gearing or not. I pretty sure he geared it lower.:eek2:

I have a buddy that has a 660 and he lowered the sprocket which will make it faster out of the hole. I can beat him buy a bike or two on about a 300 ft run. The stock 660 I can beat by about 3 to 4 bikes on the same run. I have also dropped my sprocket one tooth. with the drop in the sprocket size I can now pull away from the line by on extra bike length on each of the raptors but in a long run they will catch me because of my loss of top end speed. I believe it would take about a 1\2 mile or more run for them to catch back up to me an pass me. We don't run that far so I always win.. Don't get me wrong if your not on your toes them raptors will pass right buy you. But if you are ready for the race they don't have a chance. (stock to stock machines)

You guys have to keep in mind that its like comparing a Banshee to a 250R. Ofcourse in a straight line drag the Banshee will stomp the R but if you have to slow down, turn, and take back off the R is the winner. I've had each and the R with a built motor didn't have the power or speed the Banshee had with a set of pipes. With the Raptor 700 (Banshee) and 450R (250R), the outcome is the same. I rode a 700 today and like the Banshee it really starts to come alive at half throttle in 3rd. The 450R dies at half throttle in 4th. The 700 is also built for riding like a WR450 which is faster then a YZ450 which is built for racing like the 450R. The catagories are completely different. If they were designed to do the same thing it would make more sence to compare the two. Not do dog the old lady's 450R but it ain't no 700 or Banshee. It is a 450....designed with closed course competition in mind.

depends on mods and rider.

700 is pretty close with 04/05 stock

06/07 will take it by a pinch.

my 06 w hrc leaves stock 700 every time.

I'm sorry twiles. But a 250r with any motorwork at all will stomp the hell out of a banshee with pipes. I had a standard bore 250, with ftz porting, dyno head, reed cage and airbox eliminator, and I could dust darn near any banshee that was'nt a big bore. They are not all they are cracked up to be. Unless you have a ton of $$$ to dump into them. Not tryin to bash banshees or any proud owners, but, I've seen lots of 250r's hammer on them.

I have an 06 450r with web cam fmf factory 4 full system, fmf ceb slipper clutch hrc jets and ignition mod.

my neighbor /cusin has a 700 with ct exhaust ,proflow intake, and the fuel injection commander

I consistently beat him at dumont by 1-2 bike lengths

Why does yamaha make a 660cc or 700cc quad that doesn't perform better then a 450cc quad. Doesn't make sense to me. Seems a 660cc or 700cc quad would put out for HP & torque then a quad that is 450cc's. But go figure.

the 700 is a beast of a machine. the 450's are considerably lighter...that has a little to do with it. just my oppinion.

my 250r w/ esr 310 kills my freinds piped banshee w/ carb work, k&n's and boost bottle, my brother just got a 450r a couple weeks ago he got a full hmf exhuast and k&n w/ jet kit. we have not raced yet but we will soon. i rode his r and i can't tell whos is faster cause the power is so different. after we race we are both getting engine work he's looking for a big bore 480 maybe a 520 and i'm installing my dyna fs ignition and sending my cyclinder to c-leigh racing for additional port work! then of course will have to race again!!

The 700 is only about 45lbs heavier than either of the 450's. I do not believe it is the weight difference it all comes down to performance. I believe the 450 is putting out about all the power available right from the factory. Of course I know you can add mods and get more out of it but this also makes it not last as long. The 700 will probably last longer because they don't have to work as hard. Does anyone know if I am right or not. I am just quessing. Like everyone has said my 07 450r will beat a 660 by about 2 to 2 1/2 bike lengths every time. The 700 by about 1 to 1 1/2 lengths. This is stock to stock machines. You would think that the big cc bikes would walk off and leave the smaller engines.

It is the same way with cars.... Small block will run with or out run a big block..

If anyone knows I would just like to know how much hp has the 450r and yfz got from the factory and how much can you get out of them without race fuel or nitrous and still be a reliable machine. I would olso like to know the same about the 700. This may answer our questions...

All that info is in the dyno room.

Factory 06/07 yfz and trx are right about 40 hp depending on the dyno. HRC kitted trx's will be around 46 - same as cam modded and piped yfz's, maybe a bit more. The 450's are reliable in mild mod form like this, but let's face it, these are 10,000 rpm machines. You will have more maintenance because of that.

The 700's bone stock run about 44 hp, and I have seen piped and efi controller 700's run at about 50 hp.

Hp numbers don't tell the whole story though. Time to speed graphs are a better indication and are affected by gearing as well as rotational mass differences. The 450's accelerate faster and have a little less weight to deal with. 700's rev slower and that hurts in a drag, but they make up for it with shear hp on the top end. That's why 450's above get beat if the race is long enough.

I nearly bought a 700, they are nice quads and I would never discount them for a great all around trail/dune quad. They also have a much higher hp potential because, well, they have a hell of a lot bigger motor...

this is my stock, not even the end cap taken out, no paddles nothing, 06 450R...I didn't do too bad against this guy on the piped and paddled 700 who was ripping others apart. I'd have to say now with my mods and paddles i could probably beat this guy

If you cant walk on a banshee in the woods, something is wrong. The power on them is insane, but it is also super hard to control. You are either off the powerband or spinning the tires at 100 mph. I sold my banshee to buy my 450r and would never trade back. The suspension on the 450r also makes it much easier to ride ANYWHERE, the banshee suspension is stone age compared to a 450. Long wide open trails the banshee is great, anywhere else, 450 all the way. Just my opionion.
