which tranny oil to use

the guy at my local honda shop told me to use hp trans oil 80w 85w, but in my shop manual is says to use 5-30 or 10-30? which one is it?

Yes you can use the HP trans oil. The trans on the R is really no different than the ones on a 2 stroke.

Im using amsoil 10-40 in my trans. shifts like butter. A lot of guys swear by the 80-85 honda stuff though.

I used the Amsoil AMF 10W-40 4-Stroke synthetic oil in my clutch side a long time. It shifted smooth, but guess what...my clutch now slips on the Dyno :(.

Honda 80/85W HP Trans Oil in the tall red bottle for me ONLY...from here on out :).

I use the Honda stuff in the red bottle. Easy to put in and it works great.

I'm good friends with one of the mechanics
at my Honda shop up the street and he was telling me anything else wouldn't be good for the tranny. Maybe he was just trying to bs me into maken him more money idk. But i've had no problems with it
and from what others have said you should only use it

i did run amsoil 10w-40, but i burnt up 2 sets of clutch plates, so i switched to YAMALUBE semi senthetic 10w-50. no probs

I just got some Honda 80/85W Oil in a tall red bottle assumming it's what eveyone's talking about on here. I changed my oil using this stuff and after that I was reading the bottle and it says honda two stroke bikes only. Did i get the wrong stuff.
