I'm running an 06 450 with rossier exhaust, uni filter and no lid. I heard or read somewhere can't remember which, that you will get better throttle response with the HRC style lid. Is this true? I'd perfer to run a lid but really no big deal. And if it is true I'd like to see some pics so I know where to cut my lid to make it inot the HRC type. Thanks

The carb on the 06 doesent require any back pressure like the 04-05. I still cut out my lid and slip over an old pair of pantie hose for some more protection from the big stuff. It even repels some water and mud.

So an open air box and the HRC style basically the same performance? No increase in throttle response, with the lid. Or only helps with the 04-05 models?

HRC Style lid creating better throttle response is a myth...even on the 04/05's.

The only thing the HRC Style lid does is protect your filter a little bit better.

Run no lid and stay outta the water!

thats exactly why i want to run some sort of lid!! I'm just a rec rider so i really never know where I'll end up. So if i make my lid into the HRC style will it kill my airflow? Or will it be close to the open box?

No, it want kill the air flow. Some guys cut out the hole and tack a peice of rubber over the hole to sheild off the big stuff. Remember if you open up the air box you must bump up your main jet. I went from the stock 120 to a 170 and it's about perfect.

I drilled alot of holes around the outside of the lid for the mud and snow. If water does get in it just runs down the box and out the bottom. Very little if any mud or water ever hit the filter. This still allows alot of air flow.(160 Main) 1/2 holes 30 of them. My 2 cents works great for me...:D

Just buy one of these, there under $20 bucks at motosport.com
Does a really good job keeping the big stuff out. It is also water repellant.

I vote for the EHS Racing lid. I use it and it does a good job of keeping anything bigger than dust out.

I'm sure the K&N one does the same thing... I just hate K&N.
