When i stand on my quad and rock back and forth there is alot of play in the rear end. I noticed this after i went and rode the other day and it was making like a clicking noise. kinda sounds like the chain hitting something, but its not. My question is should i just replace the carrier or should i just get new bearings. Its a 99 400ex i just got it a few months ago and i dont know if the bearings have ever been replaced. It still has the org. front tires (not like that matters) and i just replaced the org. chain. SO my guess is they are the org. bearings.

Probably just bearings. They aren't to expensive. Unless you got a lot of cash layin around that's what I'd do.

If the carrier is still in good shape then there is no reason to spend the extra money on a new one. Take the axle out and see what is worn.
