When to adjust valves?

I got my R last month and i have raced it once and ridden for like 2 hours once. Is this enough time to pull the valve cover and check the valve or should i wait a little longer? Also, what are the tolorences for the lash?

waiting on it....but I dont need it. I have enough mechanical knowledge after I figure out the valve lash..

and 100 miles!!! That will take like 4 races. I think tahts too much.

I check mine every 35-45 hours. Not sure what the manual calls for tho.

I will be doing a "How-To" writeup sometime in December with detailed instructions on how to check and adjust 450R valves.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and pull the cover and check your clearances...if for nothing else..at least the peace of mind.

Clearances are:
Intake valves: .006" (+/- .001")
Exhaust valves. .011" (+/- .001")

Make sure you use good 45* angled feeler gauges for the intake valves, so that you can get a good cam lobe to bucket feel. I use craftsman angled feelers. Straight feeler gauges can be used for the exhaust valves.

If you end up having to adjust the valves, you will need to remove the cam assembly.

Also, a good torque wrench is most definitely recommended. Torque specs for the valve cover bolts is 7 ft. lbs.
