ok my z-400 idles fine but when you are in upper RPM's it pops and crackles during acceleration not deceleration what could this be?

Have you done any mods too it? air filter, exhaust? Air lid box on? if any then you need to rejet the carb.

yes it has a full lrd exhaust and twin air filter but it isnt running the stock jet and we did throw in a even bigger jet and it kept poping this time it was in like the mid rpm's, i am at a loss
its just odd it pops even while im one the throttle and it is loud pops, oh and yea we tried running it with the air lid off and no change

Only thing I can think of is bigger jets or the current jet is too big, and maybe a new needle. If that doesnt work I would take it in and have it tested. Where do you live it and what is your elevation? Im at 4000 ft and put in a 160jet and a new needle and it runs great. maybe you have a hose crossed its probobly something simple.

well i live in western pennsylvania and im running a 140 main jet and i mean its not like i just did this its ran fine for months, and all of the sudden it started crackling and poping loud and we threw in a 145 and that was too big so we put back in the 140 and a new plug, and same story, so im gona buy a bottle of carb cleaner because i belive the carb is gummed up.

but i appreciate your help

a friend of mines quad did that he started running premium gas and it cleared right up

I live in western NY just above you. I think you are way lean. 135 is stock and your just over this with a full exhaust! What are the LRD jetting requirements? I am running completely stock with a K&N powerlid. This kit comes with a 155 and a 160. For our elevation I used the 160. When you took the airbox lid off, all you did was make it wayyyyyy leaner. When I bought the power lid before I changed jets I threw it on. Would idle fine but mid to wide open it farted like MAD! After rejetting it was sweet. I hope you haven't burned something up running so lean.
