Actually there is plenty of clearence for the air filter due to an airbox eliminator kit. The pipe also does not come to much closer to the shock then the stock setup.

I'm glad someone has something stupid to say about my pipe.....Rollie i'm glad you know so much about this mod.....ur bike have it??? I doubt it.

I origionally had an HMF exhaust that was normal for the 450r. mY buddy and I (440exkid) chopped it about 4 inches and moved the core inlet to where it was away from the air filter the most.

I became fed up with the project and wanted a clean, factory look so I called HMF and asked if they could help me out. They were more than willing to take on the project. I dropped the bike off on Saturday morning and it was done on Tuesday!!

One of the fabricators there suggested he would make a can out of the same style slip on that the ltr has in order to clear the swing arm on large jumps. He then made a custom mid-pipe that would stay away from the shock to prevent the heat from effecting the air filter and shock oil.

When I picked up the bike today, I was more than impressed, the guys at HMF are very easy to talk to and very down to earth. I have dealt with some companies who only worry about large projects.

Thanks again to HMF for the big help!!! I'm more than satisfied with your custom work!!!

dude chill out, i guess i should have said it differntly, what i meant to say was, does it go any closer to the shock, causing heatfade? and it looks a little close to the air filter. 440exkid awsnered my questions, but i apreciate you being a jerk to me:rolleyes:

But with the exhaust that close to the air filter you will be sucking in hot air ... And that will give you HP lose!!! I'f I were you I would wrap the mid pipe so it will keep the heat down in that area...
But in a different note it looks good!!!!

It looks good, but what is the point of it? It seems like it would do more bad than good. Nice to have something different, though! Don't exactly see that on the 450r everyday.

Its hard to see in the pics, but the pipe actually clears the airfilter by a few inches. May suck a little for hot air then having the stock setup, but it should be fine.

Im pretty sure he just wanted something custom. Something that will catch your eye at the dunes.

probably one of the coolest things ive seen done to a 450r. im a huge fan of the 600rr/ninja sportbikes with the undertail exhaust so that mod is right up my alley.

it does look good. it centers the weight too so the quad is more stable haha..

I like it. Now just get an 04/05 grab bar to get rid of the old mount:D

now just relocate the battery, and that will really clean it up.

I appreciate all of the good comments....I do plan on relocating the battery up front under the radiator.

I'm going to order a different grab bar, I just need to get one that has a flag mount for the sand.

I'm going to be running a led strip mounted in the plastic behind the seat that will work as the running light. Next to that I will have 2 led's on each side to work as the brake lights.

I am more concerned with doing some motor work in order to climb some nice hills in Idaho this coming summer!!!

It's an ongoing project that needs an endless supply of money!

i wasnt seirous about the weight thing its just the reason honda put two pipes on the 250f

I am not very concerned about centering the weight myself. I just think it would look good with nothing on either side of the subframe with the center exhaust.

Does anyone know who sells a kit to relocate the battery?

nobody thats mass producing them that I know of, I'm going to make my own, but it will be behind the airbox.

Man I think that is one of the best cosmetic mods I've ever seen! Plus I like stuff that noone else has or does, even little stuff, like tinting my headlight and taillight on my black 450R. If I wasnt so far behind in my wish-to-do list I would definantly be interested in getting that for myself. LOOKS GREAT!!

It would do the opposite. The quads geometry is set up to disperse weight evenly. The pipe being on the side is what balances out the quad from side to side. Probably won't be able to feel it, but when flying through the air you could possibly notice lateral rotation.

very unique and probally the only one of its kind center exhaust on the 450r. How does the swingarm not hit that exhaust?

08-18-2008, 10:11 PM
thats cool, but how did you mount it to the subframe?

ChrisSekerak
08-21-2008, 09:39 AM
HMF did all of the customization for the exhaust, I put a Velocity intake so I would have room to make the bend to have the silencer exit under the middle of the bike.

I even had a zps rear shock that sagged 2 inches, the swingarm didnt even come close to touching the can.

I think its awesome. Not for me, but I like it.
