well i got a feeler gauge finally (and compression tester) and need to set my valves.

Is the cam supposed to be in a certain position when adjusting the valves? If so is it TDC?

Thanks

I 2nd that-TDC, with play in the rockers. Clearance is .004 for both intake and exhaust- don't over-tighten

When your at TDC,both lobes on the cam will be pointing down;)

The PISTON should be at TDC

In reality, the piston doesn't have to be exactly at TDC, as long as it's fairly close. You want the cam lobes pointed down so that you're not lifting the rockers at all. You could probably go 20 degrees to either side and still be okay.

Just make sure to set it while the engine is cold. The whole point of that clearance is to give the valves room to expand when they heat up. If you set that clearance while the engine is warm or hot, it will be too large.

Very good advise. You can't go wrong listening to that.

True,i like to tell people TDC though so they dont develope any bad habits because of me;) Once one gets proficient enough then they can learn short cuts and how to eliminate steps:D
