Ok, this is going to be my ongoing 250R project. Back in the day when I was 8 years old I remember reading (more like looking at the pictures) my first dirtwheels magazines, I kept seeing 250Rs and just fell in love with them, then I got my first atv, An 86 TRX 70. Deffinetly no 250R but I rode the piss out of it anyway. So through the years and through a 230QS, 89 warrior 350, and most recently a 98 Banshee, I still dreamt of owning a 250R. OK enough background to the point. So after awhile of looking at Rs and parts for them I decided instead of dropping 3-4G on a bike and then replacing half the parts with parts I wanted on it, and rather then molesting a bone stock overpriced one, I will just buy a frame or a roller and build it how I want it. So I looked and looked and never really did anything. So then Im just browsing through the classifieds here and stumble upon dustins 88 rolling frame, right year, straight, no welds, and its a roller. So I contact him and eventually find myself driving 590 miles to north carolina to buy my dream bike. So thats where it begins and who knows where it will end. Stay tuned for all the progress, as slow as it maybe.

This is pretty much how I picked the bike up. Mostly all stock and missing an engine, wiring harness, seat, and plastics.

Going good so far just need to break down the rear axle assembly

I have a couple broken flush bolts I need to get out, then Ill blast the frame, weld in some gussets and off to powder coat.

Heres the plan/goals/WISH LIST.

+1+1 LT A-arms, stock swingarm, LT Elka suspension, +1 anti-vibe stem, Fully gusseted 88 frame, RPM axle, HiPer wheels, 295 or 310 PV motor with an ESR pipe, maybe an aluminum air box, sidewinder chain and sprockets, Fat bars, trail tech lights, either white or black plastics, and a flame style set of graphics. Right now I wanna do the frame in fire red with black and chrome accents. Its going to be a long and expensive process but the end product will be a bike that will shine in all aspects, MX, XC, trails and maybe some Big air.

Until next time

thanks beerock, do you think its a good idea to do some gussets to the rear shock mount, like the aftermarket frames have (leagers) Also I might just grab a kit from pappy and just do some extra gussets like the tubes in front of the stem like you have and the rear shock bracing. I know its cheaper to make them yourself but without a plasma it would be a pain to cut out all those peices. I also plan on finishing up and touching up some of the factory welds.

Pain in the butt cutting them out,, man, if you love a R like you say you do,,,useing a hack saw to cut out all those little brace pieces wouldnt be a problem.
A TRX250R aint just an everyday 4 wheeler, its bit of history, fix it right & have pride in it.

Thats how I look at it & when I do a port job on a R cylinder, you best beleave its the best I can do, no ho hum mess after my hands have touched it, NO SIR not from my shop.

WOW this thing was burried, anyway some updates. So everything is completely apart, all the bolts are out but one and it looks to be a real pain. I lost the place where I was going to do my sand blasting and welding but I have some other options. Well heres the biggest and most expensive update. As you have read I was in the process of purchasing a set of houser A-arms. Well today I had a mini x-mas and the UPS man played santa. So without further delay heres my little peice of bling.

hahaha Im so lazy, so Im gonna update, even tho Ill prolly let this die and just start a new build thread when everythings all complete. Well I still have a totally disassemble R and I still need a bunch of stuff but I got alot of the hard to find things I needed including a complete harness, motor, seat, tank with all hardware. Anyway the tank came in last night (thanks mineral) so I decided to mess around a bit....this is what u get
