on my 300ex, if i go from the 13 tooth front sprocket to a 14 tooth sprocket do i need to get a new chain?

If your replacing your sprockets due to wear, then yes the chain has to go, if you just want to change the gearing than your old chain will do fine.

FreeStyle is right - it is always good practice to replace your chain if your sprockets are showing wear.

i agree. An old chain will DESTROY a new sprocket!!! So just spend the extra cash and get a new chain too. THe DID ATV X-Ring chain is UNREAL!! they really arent taht expensive either. I sell them for $50 for a 100 link. They last a LONG time, ive been running mne all year with a mod. engine and have only really tightened the chain 2 times. To me thats a good chain. And alot of bike guys are actually running them too becuase they have virtually no drag at all.
