Like mentioned, Silver lake dunes in Mich. About 6 hours from Erie Pa. A good place to go if you've never been in sand before. It's small and sandy but doesn't represent real dunes very well.

Next is Lil' Sahara in Winoka?????? Oklahoma. Campground next to the entrance. Good dunes and alot of riding. 1200 miles from Erie.
Aw heck, for twice the distance from Lil' Sahara, you might as well plan a trip to GLAMIS (Imperial sand dunes~S.Cali) It's awsome. The major holidays is when everyone is there. 5 I think...Turkey day, christmas, new years, presidents day and I think mothers day.
2400 miles from Erie.
Sand is alot of fun. And yes your stock tires will work fine.

If you want the Dune Experience just slap some paddle tires on that 250R of yours and play in the MANY Giant Black Dune Coal hills of Pa.! ;)
