Just thought i would start a thread for all of the deer hunters out there. I got a nice 10 pointer and my uncle got a nice 8 that ran into a tree after he shot it and broke half the rack off. We held it on there just for the pictures. My dad also got three does so it was a good opening day of shotgun season!

Cody made a perfect shot, but the fat blocked the exit hole and she went for a stroll:p At one point I was on my hands and knee's with a flashlight looking for blood.

I think I have them fed pretty well:eek2:

Pappy, what did they shoot with?

Pappy

Both my boys shot .243's

They are extremely accurate, light in recoil etc, but i have not been satisfied with terminal performance. I handload all of our ammo and have tried various bullets and recipes. Currently they are shooting Nosler 95 grain spitzers. They are devistating, soI hope this one kill is a fluke. First time I could actually prove fat blocked the exit hole!

some of you might not believe me but when my dad shot his deer it was on the ridge of a mountain and he was on another hill opposite of that, well to make a long story short when he shot it, it fell and rolled down the other side and hooked its antlers in this dead tree, pretty cool check it out....

Looks like hes sitting and howling!

pappy keep faith in the 243 i used a 243 to hunt blackbears in alaska and so did my brother we both had great sucsess and the las bear i shot in AK with the ruger 243 was a one shot instant kill although we both always aimed for the neck or behind the ear.not the normal shot but with acuracy of a 243 it is a very effective method.we never had to track any animal.you either miss or they drop.efficiant shot either break the neck paralizing the animal or they drop dead in their tracks.plis no worries of gut shot or recking front 1/2 .not trying to give advice to you as im sure you already know.i love the caliber and most think its under power but for long shooting its one of the best for smaller size game.congrats on the deer those are perfect size table meat.im a butcher by trade and miss hunting deer lots of wild boars here in hawaii.

You would have to put a slug barrel on it and i am not sure if there is any specific season for shotgun. It will not be very good for long shots either.

Not the biggest deer I have ever killed, but it was the only legal one I seen. It wasn't a good year.:(

Meat in the freezer, and the memory of the hunt. Besides, big racks are like big boobs, they are nice to look at, great to touch, but they arent the only reason to be out hunting:devil:

Not sure really. His buddy has a son that moved out there and bought a big farm. They have been going for the past 4 years(I believe non residents have a lottery system?)

My boss lives on the eastern shore of MD, and is no stranger to huge bucks. Last year he came back with a whopper of a story, but no one killed anything. (As they were setting up a stand a HUGE buck walked within 30 yards of them, day before the season LMAO!)

The business I work for is almost sold, and he plans on buying his own farm just to hunt, so hopefully I will get my chance to knock down one of them big boys!

Around here that is a NICE buck.I have only killed a couple that size in my life around here.Bucks have a very short life span in this part of the state, they rarely get old enough to develop a good rack.Plus the ever decreasing farm land due to developments and such, the food supply is scetchy from year to year.Couple that with the fact that the buck to doe ratio is wayyyy off and you don't have the makings for very many big bucks.

so that's what been happening to the neighborhood dogs

lol, j/k how do u lure coyotes, or do go looking for them? cuz there are coyotes in the woods behind my house and all the time i've been up there i've never seen one

but here's my first buck from last year, 8 point, first shot was perfect and it dropped but it got up after a few seconds and started to run again so i shot again and missed but it hit a samll tree then fell in a bryar patch, the feeling was indescribable. Man was i tired when i got everything done.
