I am going to be converting my ER to a kicker because I have not been able to finish a race because of the battery and because the bike wont start when hot! What I need to know is if I need to get a carb with the hot start. Or if Ill be okay with out it. Thats why i need to know if you think its necessary and you guys use the hot start!

Thanks

I was wondering that myself. I know on my 05 it is a PITA to start (when hot) without the hotstart.

i never remember to use it...but it doesn't seem to help even when i do sometimes. even hot mine normally doesn't take more then 3-4 hard kicks to get running.

Since I installed my FCR I haven't had to use it hardly at all. I'll probably remove it.

I use my hot start religiously. Even after I converted to the FCR. I find it much each to start when hot.

How many kicks does it usually take to start when not using it and then when you do use the hot start how many?? Also what do you guys use to adjust the air/fuel screws??

My 2004 usually takes 3-4 kicks when it is hot and I do not use the hot start, while it only takes 1-2 if I use the hot start. I would say I always use my hot start when the quad is hot. Do you need it, probably not, but it does make restarting faster. If you are just trail riding, then I would not worry about it. If you are racing (where seconds count), then it is something you might want to consider.

Yes I do. Its much easier to start it after a stall with the hot start. Usally first or second kick.

I use mine when the bike is warmed up. Like they said, it will start without it, but it is a lot easier with it.

I called him and he sent me to Baldwin and they told me that the battery doesnt have enough power to turn over the motor-plain and simple. He said the only fix is to add a kickstart. He said that would help tremedously with starting, and later if you choose you can get a new carb with the hotstart. Also Baldwin is in the middle of working on carbs to help with this problem.

I have never used mine. Even when hot it fires on the first kick.

I went through the same thing you are, and got mixed answers. Some use it, some don't. I decided since the e-start is worthless to sell it and just get an 07 kicker.

This is what I figured out. Once my R was broke in I never ever had a use for the hot start to the point I removed it from the handle bars. Once I put on my Rossier pipe and jetted to their specs all of a sudden I needed to use it. I called Rossier and asked why I would need it all of a sudden with their pipe and jetting, the answer I got was the jetting they gave me required the us of the hot start and if I didnt want to use it drop a size on pilot. I now do not use the hot start again. Hopes this helps.

I wouldn't change your pilot just so you don't have to use your hot start. You are affecting your jetting greatly. It does matter what mods you are running and how "HOT" it really is. When I'm drag racing there are times it never goes below 215ish, and I've also had some spit up last time out at Glamis.

I use mine a lot. It kicks over first kick and I don't look like an idiot kicking over my quad. You know those LTR and YFZ owners are watching, but that's ok, I just embarrass them on the drags. FYI: it's an 04
