I have a good friend that works at a local Honda dealership over in Dubuque, Iowa and he told me Friday or Saturday that Chad Wienen came in and bought 3 '05 450Rs, 3 CRF450R carbs and I think he said 3 '05 crate engines.

Just thought you would like to know. Weinens are from Galena, IL which is 15-20mins from Dubuque.

It isn't that big of surprise. Byrd has raced an 05 all last year. His engine builder has been able to get more relieable higher HP out of the 05 motors. There are a bunch of pros buying up all the 04 and 05 leftovers they can.

Don't the rules state that they can run products within 2 years of the model year....so if my statement is right next year they would have to run 06 engines...correct me if I'm wrong...but by that time they should have lots of R&D into the 06 engine

Chad told my friend that they don't run '06s becuz the trannies are crap or something like that. I have seen Chad race a couple times at the local track I race at and he's just plain awesome to watch! My friend was sayin that Chad was offered a couple factory rides but refused becuz he didn't like the equipment, such as Elka shocks. Chad calls them junk....lol. I have heard that before. Although I am a Zuki man I would love to see Chad win cuz he's kinda local and just a great rider IMO.

I was talking with Dee Manshack of RAGE ATV and he indicated that that this is all true ;)

guess i know whats under the hood..

other than crank bearing issues the first generation 04/05 is a great engine. many builders can build more power with the first generation over the second.. most race teams are still trying to get the first for this reason. the second generation 450r engines came with tranny problems the drive gear clutch gear basket alignment is not reported to align with perfect mesh..

Im good friends with chad and he is running the 05's. He got them from FHK last year but he went to Sinde Motorsports i believe. Chad made a huge turn around from the 05 to 06 season and he's already training his ***** off and riding almost every day. I have been lucky to ride with him , hang out , and race againest him. he is a true privateer and luck to him next year :)

A couple of pro level riders over here used 05 bikes this season because of tranny problems with the 06 motors, this team has actually had a number of trannys made for their guys to use for next season in the 06 bikes they didn't use this year. The guy whose track i ride at has had about 6 trannys (in two bikes) this year and is gettin one of the custom trannys.

i think the production rule is 6 years, not 2 like someone stated. hopefully, by the time they cant run the 05's honda will have the motors figured out

Yeah he is easily one of the best Privateers out there. I heard his personal track is pretty wicked. I would like to see what its like. Yeah he bought the 05's at Sindt Motors. Thats pry the best dealer I have been too. I hangout with Ryan Sindt and hes a good guy. He knows a lot about MX bikes. He used to be really good (he's still not that bad) on the bike for MX. He used to have a Pro license before he got out of it. Now he just does it for fun.

I too am starting to train for next season. I may be only a D22 B class rider but I want to get good. I went up to B class this last season and really sucked it up, so next season I'm going to try and get to the front and move up to A class by the end of the season hopefully. I have raced 2 seasons. I need to get some sponsors too. Paying for everything out of your own pocket starting to get to me.

Anyways it was cool talking with you Honda guys,

Ryan is a good guy but I have to disagree with Sindt's being the best. They have to be one of the worst dealers in the Dubuque area as far as helping out people, being rude and their prices. They seem to only really care about mx bike people and give pretty much no breaks for parts.

Isn't it funny how guys are running 04/05's, but when the TRX originally came out, many people said they were weak and handled terribly. Everyone was all about the YFZ. Man how things have changed!!!

yes, many builders prefer the first generation of the TRX cause its easier for them to build power with... For me, i like both honestly for it's application... i mean the first gen has a bit more bottom end thean the second gen, but the second gen is lightning McQueen fast rev'r...
