Do a compression check and check the cam for wear. Then get back on the forum.
Is the clicking/ticking noise louder than it was before you adjusted your valves?

Every 400ex I have ridden has some clicking noise comming from the valves. Some are worst that others but they all do it, it's normal. Adjusting the valves will help but you won't be able to get rid of it completely.
Make sure your auto decompression cable is adjusted to spec
If it is too tight it will click all the time.
Later:)
Mine Ticks like a Mofo , i only had the valves adjusted when i bought it in May.
