im a begginer rider and all i rode is 100cc 90cc and there really boring im thinking about stepping up to a 250ex iant to know how fast it goes and what upgrades and part will make it faster.. I dont want it to be to loud becase my neighbors will complain.. I heard this was a good quad to start off with especialy me beacause i live on long island ny and i have a big peice of property about 2-3 acres and thats alot here. and when it snows we ride all around...... so and thing you guys think plz help

11-19-2006, 03:41 PM
yea u posted i the 250r forum before. the 250r is a 2 stroke and its really fast you wouldnt want one. the 250ex is a nice beginers quad and you will enjoy it for about another 4 years but you should just get a 300ex now...or maybe a blaster

if you only rode 4strokes, i'd go fo the 300ex or 250x they aren't quite as quick as blaster on the bottom end but theyre an easier quad to maintain. If you don't mind a two stroke buy a blaster.

i was going to get a blaster but they dont make them anymore. so i heard i should get a 250 ex i just want to know what upgrades can i get to make it faster ..and is it worth it for me ... and also when you shift do u have to pull the clutch or is it auth 5 speed............... and i dont want a 300ex i would get one but i have a limit

The 250ex is just a shift up with your foot and thats it. By the way, not to be nosy, but whats your limit? How old are you?

$4K! Dang your lucky, I have a $2000 budget im 13 and trying to find a 250ex, 300ex, or a Warrior. You have plenty of money to buy a 300ex dude. You just gotta find one. I rode a Bayou 250 and sold for $1700. You should really look at getting a 300ex, it would fit you better.

I had just gotten a 250ex today. I dont know alot about them yet but ill tell you what I do know. Im 12 and I think the Honda 250ex is perfect for me. But I see 20 year olds riding them. Performance wise you can get a Air Filter, Jet Kit stage 1, and a Pipe. If you got a pipe you could get the stage 2 or 3 Jet Kit.

What year did ya get? Is it new? And yea it depends on your weight, height, etc. deciding which quad you get. But 90% of the time your gonna see 20 year olds riding YFZ 450s and crap. But once in a blue moon you see the occasional older dude riding a 250. lol

MY buddy got a 250ex and it is the first atv he has ever had. He is 32 and has a blast when he rides it. The 250 has plenty of power for beginners and the reliability of the Honda is nice. If you are getting a new one or a used 2006 they have the new "sport" clutch. Basically you can ride the bike without using the clutch with no worries of stalling. Once you get teh hang of shifting you can start using the clutch to learn how to use it as well. It is a very nice ssytem my buddy being new to riding does not use the clutch but when i hop on it i use the clutch as part of habit and it works very nice. Given yuour size it will have plenty of pep for you as it feels decent even with my giant 290lb tookus in the saddle lol.

dont get it. it will be great for a while but as soon as you ride something better youll see whats missing in the little 250. just get a 300 its not a whole lot different power wise (just how i feel leave me alone) and it just has a lower and less tippy feel. and also there is a huge aftermarket for them and since they have been around so long you can pick one up pretty cheap

dude i'm like 100 pounds. And I'm only 5'4", and ride a 400ex lol. Well i'm 15 and i still have my 250ex which is for sale and let me tell ya.. Its a great quad and its pretty much bulletproof. it has never let me down except when i get stuck in the mud lol i put a pipe and an airfilter and rejetted it and it made it have alot more get up and go. you will no be disappointed with the 250ex as your choice imo.

heres a older vid from summer vacation in the beggining to mid summer. I'm on the 250 obviously. and its when i have the pipe and stuff.

http://media.putfile.com/NJ-Riders

and me on the 400ex. Now the hill i was going up in the first with the 250 just diddnt have enough power to get more then half an inch off the ground. now on the 400ex I jump a foot higher than my cousin on his z400.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE-owZWuLNU

Now go and tell me i can't handle my 400 lol.. Small people can handle big quads. my cousin is only 5'5" and a little heavier then me and he's just as good!

Why does every body slam the ex?I think its a great quad and plenty of speed to have fun on and wheelie like a demon.I say someone build a little motor that smokes the bigger ones. That would be cool!

somebodys blissfully ignorant

250ex2003
12-08-2006, 08:56 PM
Ignorant :) I can stay with ANY 300 or 400 through the woods....And a drag race against a 400 doesnt convince me the ex sucks.Ive drag raced for over 10 years racing fuel injected big blocks.Ive been smoked many times by a well built small block.A good example was a 180 mph (1/8 mile) v6 dragster. So,Call me ignorant if you want but I love the little 250.Who Knows maybe I'll toy around with the motor someday and see what it could do with some port work a cam and maybe switching it over to alchohol.

dude i got mine brand new 2 years ago. i still have it and i had to replace nothing but the battery. im not saying it sucks because its easily the best quad in its class but its still a 229cc 4 stroke with no power and bad suspension...i feel bad for making my quad sound bad now

i say 300ex, but thats just my opinion

When you are trying to SELL stuff Its nice to spell things correctly so they don't think your an idiot (just my opinion :)

I would say get a 300ex. You will end up growing out of the 250ex and will want more power. But don't listen to us,go with what you think you would be most comfortable on.

H250xrider= are you running 20" rear 22" fronts?

power to weight ratio.....

My 13 yr old Daughter weighs the same as you,you also need to think about how your feather weight will get you traction as well
My Daughter rides my 440ex pretty well, but she cant grab traction well on it ,so we are building here a Blaster/CR85 until she gets a bit bigger . It will also suit her well for Nationals so she can ride with kids her own age. picture a 95 lb rider on a 22 HP stock out of the box .heh good USABLE power, also better traction with this set up

You will not believe what a dif. a riders weight will make on a quad.;)

BTW the EX's is still to date one of the most reliable, ergonimical quads on the market to date :)

If I was to chose what to go with, it most likely would be a 300ex,but thats JMO
go with what YOU want, not what everyone else thinks, your the one thats going to ride it !
