NO 5th GEAR. NEED HELP!

ok i just tore down my 400ex cuz the 5th gear would jump in and out of gear.The only thing i found wrong was the reduction gear showed some wear. now that i have it all back together my 5th gear wont even engage (acts like nutral).

what do u guys think it could be?

i took my clutch cover off and i shifted it up to 5th. the cam plate stopper dosnt go into the grove on the cam plate

that wear you seen on the gear is why it was slipping, you should have replaced the gear. It takes very little wear for it to slip in and out. And now sounds like when you went back together with it you either put a spacer washer in the wrong place or you got your shifter linkage in the wrong position and its not allowing you to shift into 5th

i did replace the gear. and im 100% positive i put all the washers on because i bought all new washers.

Bent shift fork perhaps. Or a burr on the shift drum.

you may have put all new stuff on but it could have been in the wrong order...id double check it
